50/50 mix of ATF + Acetone, and it far outperformed the likes of PB Blaster/etc.

Cool stuff. Looks like I'll be picking up some Liquid Wrench if I ever run out of PB.
(Cheap, not a mess or pain like making my own solvent, and above average performance)

I agree Mike. I too found it interesting that LW had better results than PB.
I have some ATF and some Acetone already though, so I'm going to put it into a spray bottle and see how it does. Don't know it's shelf life or what it'll do to a spray bottle's guts. TBD. Fortunately, I've worked through most of the "@#$@#$ rust!" problems on my projects...

I KNOW you have worked with ATF and Acetone, do you really want to be spraying that crap? Smells bad enough/gets everywhere even when I am trying to contain it, never the less spray it!

Interesting! My favorite penetrating oil is Zep 45. It's the only thing we use at work because, frankly, its the only thing that works.

Pretty sure I need to try that out, actually. It'd be pretty sweet if the ATF/acetone worked better than the expensive crap we buy.

ugh....Id take it with a grain of salt.
its effectively impossible to do a controlled, repeatable test of something as uncontrollable as level of rust on a fastener.

I kind of thought the same thing. I'd still like to do my own experimentation with ATF/acetone though.
