Yay.... it only took 'til page 2 for the "braking the speed limit" argument to show up!

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

In all fairness, we dont know that he was going 80. No one can judge speed by sight, and if something is loud and accelerating people tend to think its going faster than it is.
He very well may have been going way too fast in a residential lot given reports of past history, but 80 does seem a bit steep.

How fast can a Katana or GSX-R get up to 80 from 25?

the more pertinent info is how much distance travelled does it take to reach 80mph, and is there even room to hit that speed at max accel in a residential lot

i think the accident was on a road in ashby? if so, yes, you could probably reach well in to triple digits.

If my math is right... assuming straight line acceleration, that would take about 236 feet.
3 sec to 60 mph = 4 sec to 80 mph = 4 sec @ avg of 40 mph 40 mph = 211,200 ft/hr = 59 ft/sec * 4 sec = 236 feet Of course, there's no guarantees about my math.

At least thats the way I read it.....
