Yeah, the most I have ever seen on a Prius was 54 mpg,but most of them get less than 50 mpg. We sell a shitload of them though. We had a lady come in complaining about the mileage though,because the salesman she bought the car from told her that it would get 70 mpg easily. I guess some people are just dumb. Gas prices aren't going to crunch down on real car people anyway.

Just more proof that most Americans are willing to sacrifice NOTHING in the persuit of fuel savings. I honestly think prices will have to be double what they are now before any majority of us changes what they drive.
I'm also surprised about Prius dissapointment. When we took one out for a test drive years ago, took it up a mountain, thrashed it around on the street, flooring it all the time, I think it got 42 MPG for the trip. I, for one, was impressed!
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a van is a good guy with a van
turbo diesels are our current best option... don't have to sacrifice the drivability of a normal car for mileage that is equal to or better than hybrids... oh yeah, no premium on them either!

Absolutely. Personally, if I was worried about gas mileage (which I'm not), I would get a diesel. I'm far too short-sighted to care about the long term environmental effects of a single car that I'll own in my lifetime.
This is pretty evident with the STi, which is probably the most polluting monstrosity of a machine on the road aside from a dump truck lol!
This is also of course a huge point of hypocrisy for me, as part of the argument that led me towards vegetarianism years ago was the environmental aspect. What impact do I have as one person really? haha :lol:

Bingo. You might be saving money on gas but you're certainly creating a lot more pollution by using diesels up to this point.
However several of the auto manufacturers have been feverishly at work addressing the diesel emissions problem, most notably, Daimler Chrysler, VW/Audi, and Honda. I think the next gen of diesels will start knocking on the door of LEV-I qualifications before too long.

Diesel produces less greenhouse gases (more of other bad stuff) but it actually requires more crude oil to produce.

Heh, this makes me laugh,because we've had a lady who had to get her Prius towed to use after she filled the gas tank with Diesel. Maybe she was trying to get the best of both worlds. We've also had a Scion tC filled with diesel,and a Toyota Echo.
