Don't bulbs last years? gotta save that $3! Well in the case of some bikes where all they have is the one light when you use low beams, the last thing you want to have happen is all of the sudden flip down to your low beams in the middle of hte night and not have anything lighting your way. Granted this could happen anyway even if you run your high beams all the time during the day, but just an added precaution.

I'm sorry but I just don't get it. Either he's trying to save money/hassle from not replacing it as often (every 5 years instead of 2?) or he's worried about not having it at night. The second one is just plain dumb 'cause you still have your highs and you can switch it the very next day.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

We just established that the high beam at night can be dangerous and you're suggesting that he not take preventative measures to make the low beam last longer? That's smart.
It's also apparent that you haven't run into the problem of losing your lowbeam on a Saturday night in the offseason. When you don't own a car you can be in a pretty big jam. Have fun when Advance and NAPA don't have the right bulb and motorcycle shops are closed for the next two days. I got stuck with that once and it sucked.
I carry a spare tail bulb and a spare headlight bulb under my seat now. Both of them are bubble wrapped to keep the filaments intact. And on second thought, I should get a second set of spares to keep at home just in case the ones under the seat do get damaged while I'm riding around.

"OMG I HAVE TO CHANGE MY BULB EVERY 4 YEARSSS.... NOOOOEOO@@!@"
Maybe you should just take it one step further and replace it every year to make sure it nevaR blows?
I'm willing to bet that 90% of the people here sell their bike before they ever blow a bulb.

Don't be a dick just because you don't think it'll happen.
I've already gone through a set of tail lights on the F4 and I went through a set of tail lights on the VFR and a headlight.
Some of us aren't pussies and ride more than on the weekend. Maybe you should put your dick back in your pants and quit being arrogant.

Don't get all salty 'cause you have to ride everywhere and some of us actually own a car.
I have a hard time taking experience of a guy who chose not to run a light at all during the day as evidence of necessaity to take preventative safety measures. Oh and I don't think we establish riding with your brights on at night as unsafe. It's inconsiderate of others but I don't think it quaifies as unsafe.

i see nothing wrong with being prepared hrug:
i know we all don't tack-on 10..oh, 20, no wait, 40....hold-on...65k miles (keeps growing doesn't it Andrew ) on their bike in a year or two
if you put aftermarket bulbs in there (ie: piaa's, silverstars, etc.) they do tend to blow a little sooner than oem bulbs. i know the RR uses H7 bulbs (which are somewhat abundant, so i'm not really concerned), but if you have a 'hard-to-find' bulb then why not spend the $4-$10 for a back-up
i'll be more courteous using my high-beam and only use it when i'm leading or during the day. at night i'll try not to use it as much.
I wasn't arguing about being prepared, I was just questioning the amount of gain one really gets by running the high beam during the day.
Oh and Andrew smells funny.

high beams during the day, but at night it is what is better, sometimes both since I can do that, i was not able to do both on my gixxer.

"If you can't dazzle em with brilliance, baffle em with bullshit"
The only reason I run the high beams during the day is to draw attention to myself. There's no real danger during the day of blinding anyone so that they can't see, but that brighter light will sure make them notice you easier.
Oh and for the record, two spares of all bulbs at all times.
*gives up*

Now that you have a girlfriend, I'm going to ask her to keep a leash on you.
To make this post relevant I have put 10k on the F3 and 3k on the FZ...

why do you guys talk about how much mileage you have put on your bikes like its some kind of cock length contest?
does anyone really care?
hey, Ive reduced the value of my bike more than you have!
It's generally used as a measure for how much experience someone has. It's kinda like saying you've done 50 w2w races instead of saying you've been racing 3 years. Obviously 50 races is more impressive than racing for "only" 3 years.
I think Andrew takes pride in his number because it's generally larger than most people put on their bike in a couple years and it shows in his riding. That said, it usuaully shows up in conversation as dick waving... although some might say I'm biased because my number is smaller than others.
