12 hour timing belt
#1
well I finally got around to my timing belt on the honda yesterday- only took about 12 hrs, simply because of the main crankshaft bolt. For the life of me I couldn't get a screwdriver in the flywheel teeth to stay wedged so I could smack my breaker bar on the bolt and loosen it. Finally with a BFH (big f'in hammer) I got it. Also got the water pump, tensioner, and new belts all around.

now that makes 3 timing belts I've done- 2 E30's and the honda! I think I'm done with them for good.

Oh, and thanks to RJ for some tips!

Less than half of that if a shop did it.

Glad you got it tackled Chris - it only gets easier from here! Smile

doing the timing belt on the integra sucked donkey balls. i tried putting the car in 5th gear, with the ebrake and it still wouldnt budge. i ended up goin to a shop and asking them just to break the nut loose with air tools and then retorque it so i could go back home and do the install. this was over the span of an entire winter, mind you, so consider 12 hours cake. congrats

edit: and i think evan broke an impact socket trying to help which i know he's got a pic of somewhere

You might be able to get away with it if the front wheels were on the ground (or ramps?) but the crank pulley is too close to the frame rail to get a socket + breaker + pipe on usually.

Stupid FWD. Why would you want it anyway?

Probably because a frozen crank pulley bolt on a honda sometimes requires more than 200-300 ft-lbs to break it free, and you're better off with an impact anyways (dont want to snap the bolt).

I've tried that trick before many times and it just doesnt work.

Oh. So it's not that it's an unsound concept, just that hondas are stupid.
