Yeah, I heard about this...so sad...
"Thirty-two drivers paid five-thousand each to take the wheel of expensive, fast cars."
You mean to tell me that random people payed 5k to drive a 1 million dollar Enzo? Thats the stupidest thing i've ever heard. I'm not suprised then that this happened...
The way I read it was that they paid $5k each to do some sort of rally or event. However if it was truly that 32 random dudes paid $5k to drive supercars on track, that's not a bad scheme. Assuming you didn't have a jackass wreck your car like this guy did, you could recoup your money in 5 events and have yourself a free Enzo 8)

to me it sounded like a $5k entry fee to do the rally kinda like gumball rally. i dont really see the thrill in doing that shit when you could take it to the track which is a lot more fun for a lot cheaper

Yeah I was thinking it was a 5k entry fee to drive your own car, but the way they worded it it sounded like you show up, pay 5k, then drive an Enzo etc. I hate news reporting on cars. Remember the first story, from Malibu, when the guy raced the SLR...."it appears some sort of red, racing type special Ferrari hit a pole" lol.
I think this makes three...this one, the shady crash in california, and one on the autobahn that was torn to bits.

I think the majority of it was for charity. From what I read, they closed off a section of the highway and they let the guys who owned supercars open up their cars. There were cops stationed at certain points who would give them "speeding tickets" which were then donated to charity.
What's really whack though is apparently the guy in the Enzo wrecked only going 100mph. C'mon man! 100mph is like daily commute speed in some states. 200 would have been way cooler, although it would have been way harder for him to live lol!

IIRC that was actually the fault of the car (in-car video showed him turning and out-of-car video didn't show the wheels turning).
Hrm, I just read elsewhere that the Enzo guy was going closer to 200mph and hit a bump in the road. I don't know if this is reputable or not though:
"From the horses mouth - Richard was going close to 200mph, and hit a bump in the road that sent him airborne. The car rolled 7 times and was flat as a pancake. Fortunetly he was wearing a helmet. He has cracked vertebrae in his neck and back, 4 broken ribs, broken sternum, some broken fingers, and the only surgery he made need is on his thumb. Nothing life threatening. He is refusing pain medication because he thinks he needs to be punished!"

I heard the name of the Enzo owner, Richard Losee, and I knew it was familiar...he's owned the car since new and it was used in magazines for road tests etc. He was also in an R&T article on the Ferrari Challenge rally. He looks exactly like Christopher Reeves too.

http://www.enzoregister.barchetta.cc/eve...efault.htm Is this the guy who actually tracks his Enzo? (or used to?) It doesnt look like it (I think that guy is a little older) but I read an article about him. Seemed like a pretty cool guy, and has a ton of track experience. He bragged about being the first in the world to go through a set of $30k Enzo carbon brakes!
Quote:The Ferrari was the only car involved in the crash, and will probably be a total loss.
it looks fixable
