What would gas prices have to do with racing with one group vs. another? You spend just as much to go to the track either way.

<rant>If you are a true car guy, don't bitch about the price of gas. Even at $3 a gallon driving is a great bang for the buck.

Owning a nice car and saying you arenÔÇÖt able to afford the gas for it is like owning a place at Aspen and saying you can't stay there during the winter because it costs too much to heat the house  .

So quit bitching. </rant>
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

yeah exactly I just thought that might have something to do with people continuing in racing or end up swaying them from even getting into it. From the outside looking in, I tend to think people see it as a big issue, where as Chad stated it clearly isn't. So for every thousand you spend $100 goes to gas. Unless you running 100 octane.

Higher octane fuels are not subject to the price fluctuations that regualr gas is. This is due to the manufacturing process and not the cost for raw materials. VP high octane has remained pretty stable for quite a while now, but I'd rather stick w/ 93 that could cost me 2.50-3.10 vs VP that cost $6/gal.

ha, Gas is about 1/10 of my total budget for a race weekend, yes, even the gas for towing to the track.
Regardless of the actual impact of the price of gas on your weekend budget (although Im willing to bet its well over 1/10) it still affect peope psychologically. Its tough to put $70 worth of gas in the truck....twice...if you're towing out of state. I do know a lot of racers pared their schedules down due to this. To relate it back to the previous discussion, the "crossover" races are going to be the first to get dropped

For Summit it is actually less than 1/10, between tires, brakes, trans/diff/oil, entry fee's, etc. Now this depends on where I go, VIR cost me more in gas to get there so it works out to about 1/10 or so. In my budget I factor in everything that it cost for me to go out for a day, all fluid changest and wear/tear, things I know that will need replacing like seats/belts, everything.

Good point... spending $250 in fuel alone for CMP sucked alot.

And how much would you have spent doing that same tow a year ago? 20-40 less?

And it would have sucked a year, or 2 years ago too...... but I'd still do it, and I'll do it again.
