Just thought this might be an interesting article involving a town that most of us lived in.

I read that 3 people were murdered last month I think in Harrisonburg, one shot to death in a parking garage? What the hell is going on in that town...I'm sure these people did nothing wrong, but still...the burg is being shaken
Wow, the link is kinda messed up. What was the gist of the article?

When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

holy crap! i think i know all of those guys. at least i worked with an Ahmed and Amir at Pilgrims Pride, what is now known as VA Poultry CoOp. if that is the Ahmed i know, they are messed up. the guy fled from his country to save himself. the man was even shot in the head for godsake, no JOKE! nicest guy you'd ever know. i have to get a hold of some friends still working in poultry biz and find out for sure though. i know Ahmed and Amir is very common name for them.

A couple weeks ago I saw this white kid pull a knife out on a black dude in the parking lot accross from Finnigans in downtown. I didn't want to get involved but I stuck around in case things got out of hand. Thanksfully they just mouthed off at each other's respective entourage and dispersed shortly before the police arrived.
My boss (girlfriend) said that she has talked to Harrisonburg police and that they told her that the JMU people are very sheltered from the "real Harrisonburg"
Yeah pretty much every time I went to a townie party in HBG some bullshit would go down. There are a lot of cool down to earth folks in HBG but there's also an element of wannabe gangstas out there that get into stuff like pulling knives and whatnot.

I think that's rather unfortunate for these folks who are earning a honest living and trying to help out the families they left behind. It kind of hits close to home for me because I have relatives in Panama that my parents have to send money to and fly down from time to time to take care of.
On one hand its imperative to dry up sources of financial backing for those involved in terrorism and insurgency in the Middle East but on the other hand putting innocent people in jail is not acceptable.

Not to rain on anybody's parade, but I am questioning how four, refugees, could raise "several hundred of thousand" dollars in such a short time frame? I know hard working Americans would could not raise funds so quickly... especially in Harrisonburg. I have a feeling these guys aren't as innocent as they are trying to portray themselves. I could use an explanation...
Also it is unfortunately neccessary in my opinion that the government keep a close eye on things like this. A lot of Terrorism IS (fact) funded by people over in America raising funds and transporting them over. I have seen many articles in newspapers talking about how money couriers have become the new way to transfer illegal funds (since digital is too hard to do without being caught). Unfortunately if we relaxed our watchful eye on activities like this, there is too much potential for exploitation. It is unfortunate that some will lose the ability to help their families, maybe even costing some their lives, but continuing to allow funds to slip through to terrorist groups will cost even more lives (maybe even those of the families that need help to begin with).
It's a tough situation, just my two cents.
Also another point: In war torn countries, mail isn't the most reliable or secure thing in the world. It would not surprise me at all if the Iraqi terrorists or even government is inspecting packages an confisgating money and supplies. Plus in some areas mail might not be working AT ALL depending on how hot (violent) the area is.
being Turkish... i'm sure the Kurds are up to no good... and yes... raising that kind of money in Hburg would take more than a little work for 4 chicken plant workers... opium anyone?

They were arrested for operating an illegal money transfer business, not laundering money to terrorists.
It wasn't just all their money. It was a licensed business except for the first defendant, Qambari. He was given 5 years for operating an illegal money transfer business. The argument is that the punishment doesn't fit the crime.
Immigrants of all stripes send money back to their home nations to help support loved ones which we all find admirable except if you're from the Middle East, then you're a terrorist. No evidence. Just conjecture and prejudice as evidenced by Kaan's comment.

We dont have large scale anti-us terrorist operations in Honduras or Mexico and Yes, the association sucks for those who are making an honest living here.

I talked to the guy that got shot in the parking garage the morning he got shot (he was buying a 740) anyways... he was from Florida, not a towny.

I think my point is that guilt is changes with perception. If justice is blind and based on facts, then let the facts speak for themselves. It concerns me that the level/degree of punishment changes with the current political climate or whether or not your native land is currently an enemy of the US. That sort of posture leads to the internment of the Japanese in WWII and the like.

if someone from south america is busted for the SAME crime... they will get the same crime. thats plain and simple.
as far as my above comment... do a little research... the Turks dont want them... the Iraqi's dont want them... let them all come here for all i care... but sending this kind of money home... will mostly like lead to arming their people to kill my people... its historical

That has nothing to do with the topic and if you want to do research, google Armenian Genocide where 1.5 milllion Armenians were massacred by the Turks. But that's neither here nor there. Just trying to present the idea that life isn't as black and white as we would like to think

It never has been, and never will be.
Anyone that wants you to think that anything involving politics, race, religion or lines drawn on a map is black and white is pulling the wool over your eyes.
