BMW 1 Series brochure

Check it out: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www2.autospies.com/article/index.asp?articleId=2876">http://www2.autospies.com/article/index ... cleId=2876</a><!-- m -->

I don't think we'll actually get the 1 series here because BMW thinks we don't like hatchbacks. I think I've heard that we'll get the 2 series with 2.2L and 2.5L inline 6's. I'm a bit dissapointed with the weight, the 2.0L 1 series comes in at ~2950 lbs. Pretty much what the Mazda 3 5 door weighs tho so it isn't totally bad.

So it just comes in the 5 door? Is there a three door as well?

surprise! Oafish, slovenly Americans like big heavy cars and are only concerned with the power of the AC! Gotta chill the sweat that collects between the jelly rolls, ya know? And we're so tied up in stereotypes, that a hatch can't really be cool because we really want to call it a "station wagon". Sport wagon, 5-door, whatever, we American's know what it really is. Same reason no-one likes minivans, so let's all get SUVs to carry our tubby asses around one at a time! Even if it's really just a minivan that looks like an SUV, just as long as it's not called a minivan! I'll take two! Supersize it please!

Channalingus.com perhaps?

I think BMW might be right on the hatchback thing though. I don't think potential BMW buyers would be so hot on the luxury hatchback idea. Perhaps if the 1 series had a different marketing campaign than the rest of the Bimmers.

Either way I don't think they can get away with a 4 cylinder pushing 150 hp in the US. You don't want people to think of the car as a BMW Civic. Not that the Civic is a bad car but it certainly does not evoke the same lust/emotion that the blue/white roundel brand does, unless you're talking about a certain Civic we don't get here...

Oh well we'll be getting a 2 door 2 series sometime in the future with an M2 to follow. I'm hoping the M2 will capture the original character of the E30 M3. If it does, it'll make a mean, mean race car.

I've heard very few details about the 2 series, but how much ya wanna bet we'll be dissapointed by the weight? And aren't the 2's supposed to be convertables? That should help. :roll:

edit: coupe and 'vert are 2 series, and yes, according to Roundel (crappy ass magazine that comes with BMWCCA subscription), they'll be introduced in September, and MAYBE in the states in 2 years!? Thanks.
