New Carb - gripe -
#1
Well, as some of you may have known previously, I thought that I had a float hanging up in my carb. It was flooding out like mad, and I couldnt figure out why, so I finally took it to a local shop. They rebuilt it thinking the same thing I did. Still flooding out..so, apparently the core cracked a bit, allowing fuel to flow rampantly down into my intake, flooding it out like a champ! So..an excuse to buy a new carb..hooray for that! Well, i had thought about switching over to a vacuum controlled carb, but that would involve switching distributors, which is a really obvious emissions illegal thing to do, so I'm going with a stock rebuilt Qjet, good up to 795CFM (Computer controlled Qjets change the CFM based on demand)....so, thats good I guess, except it's spending 300$ for almost no gain..However I've been running rich, and i thought the jets were too big, maybe it was jsut getting extra fuel from this leak...update to come on how its running

What would the cost be of upgrading to fuel injection and would it be worth it?

Heh, me too, I can adjust the idle mixture, but thats about as far as I know, hence why I took it to the shop. Luckily I know the guy, and he wotn rip me off. I think i should be fine with this one, the only reason people switch to a Holley or other design Carb over a Qjet is because the Qjet uses forced air to open the secondaries, whereas a holley has a mechanical linkage, when you need 100% throttle RIGHT NOW. As this car is mostly street driven, hardly ever need that, and it has massive airflow for a street driven carb. Maybe i'll get some mileage gains out of it anyway, and a bit better throttle response since it'll be running the right A/F. Come to think of it, if my O2 sensor was picking up that it was running rich the whole time, it was probably trying to lean everything back out, when it was a leak causing the trouble the whole time...blah...maybe only good can come of this
