Cobetto's email is down and I haven't been able to reach him by phone. You should be able to contact Mark or JJ though. If you don't have their phone numbers I'm sure Leech does.

I've got both their #'s but right now they're in Daytona for the 24 hour. If you want me to get in touch with them or Laura let me know.

Personally I'll be staying at the Hotel de Adkins or Hotel de Johnson.

Yes, please ask them what they need from us. I contacted them (Mark and Laura) 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything back.

Oakley doakley... Heard back from Laura. They won't need corner workers but will need a few in grid as well as in timing and scoring. If you're interested in working please post it up ASAP so I can get us a room.

You all know the drill, 2 weeksends of work = 1 weekend on track. We also get free lodging... Grid and T&S are fairly relaxed as compared to the corners, so come on down! Weeeee!

Have you ever worked a corner (don't even bother with the wisecracks all of you assholes out there)?

Yes, Mike, I've worked corners before, numerous times.

I'm not saying that working grid is harder than a corner, but I don't want people thinking that they're gonna be doing nothing. Chuck and I are in charge of grid and if MM members are working with us there they will be doing work, there will be no wandering off to check out what's going on in the paddock, help a friend change tires, bleed brakes, etc. You'll be required to be on station unless you have someone to relieve you and it's approved by myself or Chuck. This year we're going to be a lot stricter about things, we've imposed several new rules which will require us to pay a lot greater attention to the drivers and instructors. A lot of people get the impression that working there means you can come and go as you please, and not really do any "work", well that isn't true. If people treat it that way they'll find that the NASA officials such as Chuck, JJ, Chris, and myself won't be signing their log book.

T&S on the other hand is a cake job until it comes time for a race or qualifying. You get to sit in the heated room and you only have to really be there for qualifying sessions and races, the rest of the time you can do whatever you want.

no no ladies and gents... i have the EASIEST job in NASA... tech inspecting is a breeze! look at some brakes, shake some tires, look at the motor and fluid. then when you graduate you get to measure cages and sign anual logs... yes i have graduated... common sence is the key with cages... i sit most of the day, still have time to cook widowmakers... first offical race of the season for HC and SM and such is the hard weekend with lots of anual techs and stuff... other than that i live the high life... but i did work corners... i work a corner last valentine enduro!

PS it was cold (in the high 30s low 40s) and we had a horizontal rain. it could happen again this year, but i doubt it. we still had a blast, the guy i worked corners with that weekend and i still talk from time to time and he always takes notes when i drive VIR (well he did the one time i drove VIR).

When did I say they would be doing nothing? Never. I said that it is more lax than working a corner, which it is. Please forgive me for trying to paint a prettier picture of the work that may be involved in this event in hopes that more people will be interested.

jesus, there's no reason to get into a pissing match over positions in NASA. Working corners is cold as shit and there is almost zero chance of ever getting relieved. Therefore, if you're on a corner, bring lotsa clothes, gloves, or some other device to keep your ass warm (as well as the rest of your body). If you're doing grid, from my own experience, you have a better chance of getting relieved. Same rules apply to warmth though.
However, neither of these really relate to this event. Corner workers aren't needed, and from what I can tell, there are a few people coming up to work, so there should be people to relieve so that you can go and check out the cars and track.
Instead of bitching and making us look bad, why don't we try to make sure that our newer members make it out to this event, since it is one of our best tracks and they will have a greater possibility of getting to go around and check everything out?
Just my .02 psi, I thought working grid was much easier b/c it didn't rely on your quick reflexes and constantly keeping your eyes peeled for something going wrong in the middle of the turn.

Thank you Dave. I don't see the point of this argument over positions either. I love working the corners and thats what we have to promote to all members- new and old. Lets start a def. list of who is going and driving. I'm in and can drive if needed.
