Reckless driving tech?
#41
The lawyers were telling you exactly what I told you. Wreckless driving is a serious offense now. The good thing about hiring a lawyer is that a lot of those guys have relationships with the judges and can talk them down WAY easier than you can. It's worth the money.

Look at it this way, would you rather not get one, and gamble on low odds that you'll get the ticket reduced? Or would you rather spend the money, improve your odds, and have a better chance at keeping your license?

this is gay! :? No-one should be facing any chance of jail time for such an infraction. I wonder if it's just VA that's gone so hardcore recently? They've always kind of been the lead in oppressive traffic police power, guess this is their next step. yay.

Wonder if they were planing on notifying people or do you just get to find out word of mouth when your friends are in jail?

I'm definitely going to be retaining a lawyer - no question. Of the three I've talked to today, the most expensive one was also the least knowledgable about Louisa County. His retainer was $2000. The other two were $750 and $400 - but at least they've both practiced in Louisa before and seemed to have some knowledge concerning the judge's temperment.

Of the cases I've reviewed - I've only found one person going 30+ over the limit that has *not* gone to jail. He lost his license for 6 months and paid a $1000 fine. And I can't find his freakin' lawyer anywhere Sad

I know this is unfortunate that this happened, but if this happened to someone just joining the club (freshman sophmore) I think reactions would have been different, like.."how could you be so stupid" i.e. Blair's drifting pictures, but because he is an OG, people aren't saying stuff like this.

85 in a 55 is extreme speeding, Did you really need to get up that fast to pass her? That is kinda hard to believe.

Rob... do you live to make drama?

The difference between John and some freshman or soph is that we all know John very well. We know he isn't a reckless driver, we know he is a pretty skilled driver, and we all know we all make some mistakes now and then on the road... Basically, John driving 85 is a lot more safe IMO than an untrained driver going 70.

I don't really think he's making drama, it's a legit statement IMHO, and he's absolutly right. We would treat someone we didn't really know differently, maybe be more skeptical and scornful. But that's what happens when you get to know someone and build a good reputation with them, you learn to trust their story and identify with their situation. Nothing wrong with that. Just the way it works. Similarly, if we knew John was a total jackass, we'd probably treat him quite differently if he made this thread.

Thanks for the votes of confidence guys. I'm certainly not trying to duck responsibility here - I was definitely driving too fast, and I admit it. I'm just trying to sort out my options for limiting the fallout - especially considering the ramifications of having a Class 1 misdemeanor on my record. I believe that the punishment, in this case, far exceeds the crime, and I would like to do whatever I can to reduce the damages to myself and my family.

Hey John,
Sorry to hear about this unfortunate event. 15N through louisa is definitely annoying as hell to get stuck behind someone on. Seeing as im from the area my expertise sounds needed. My boy got clocked goin 130 in a 65 in louisa, here's how his story played out. Everything but felony evasion was dropped in court, felony went to circuit court. He got jail time but they allow you to serve the time on weekends. The lawyers arent BSing either, im thinking about all my friends that have served time because of driving and all were Louisa offenses, also all of them were under 21 when convicted, some under 18. All i can say is, the best of luck with that. Class 1 misdemeanors are nothing though, i got one for underage poss. of alc. a while back but after you serve out your probation/license suspension you can hire a lawyer to get the charge expundged(sp) from your record through the circuit court, which leaves your record sparkling once again. Really thats what id use a lawyer for.

Oh and for the record ANYTIME a cop gives you a yellow sheet of paper for a traffic offense, you were arrested. Anytime you're cited for any violation you are "arrested" and the cop would be the arresting officer. Just cause you don't get cuffed and taken downtown to talk to the magistrate doesn't mean you weren't arrested. Just a lil clarification.

Update ? I know we're all still pulling for you and hoping for the best.

I honestly think if you invest in a lawyer you're not going to regret it, especially facing those possible consequences.

No real updates. I've put off dealing with this until after New Years - I'm concentrating on enjoying the holidays at the moment 8)
