Been out of the game...

Some of you might be wondering where I've been for the past two months. Well, first off, work sucks.. second... I've been trying something a little bit different....

Before you read on, please don't repost this on other forums... yet. We're trying to expand slowly-ish for now and I want to get as much one-on-one feedback as possible.

OK, I'm not going to bore you with the details, but a friend and I came up with the idea for a site that automatically logs you in to other sites around the web. What does that mean?

1. You log in to one site.
2. You see a list of sites you have accounts with. (GMail, EBay, AOL (AIM), Banks, Credit Cards, etc...)
3. You click a site, and BING, you're logged in to that site in a new window.

The idea hasn't been implemented until now. We have been working day and night on our creation:
Agatra Inc.

We are legally incorporated and do everything possible to maintain the security of the site. 256-bit SSL is used for data transfer, and AES 256 is used for password storage. How safe is it? If you lose your password to Agatra, the rest of your passwords are lost. Even we can't recover them.

I can't express to you in words how useful this is. If you ever sit down at a computer and hesitate with a password... if you, like me, have been having trouble keeping up with the multitude of passwords you have to memorize that are each a bit different... this changes the way you browse the web. Every day I wake up and check all my accounts the same way... Agatra. I just hit GMail, JMU Webmail, Madison Motorsports, BankOne, Chase, Paypal, American Express, Diversified Direct... all by typing my one password.

Alright, enough of the pitch. You just have to try it. Agatra

There is a request form on there if a site you want isn't supported. Request away and we'll add them as fast as we can. Our userbase is already growing beyond what we expected and I wanted some input from people I trust. Let me know what works, what doesn't. If you have no use for it (I didn't in college), that's fine... but if you're like me and have 20+ passwords for like 50 sites that you hate remembering... it's incredible. Alright... enjoy.
Agatra

PS. It's free.

hah, OR just use the same few passwords for everything!!
You find out my password, and you have access to almost all of my accounts Big Grin

yeah, the reason i thought this is because most sites are like.. you have to include non alphanumerica characters, it has to be this lenght, that length... it just sucked.

Oh, and to answer your worry. I can't get your password(s) on agatra... ever. Even if someone stole the DB, they'd never get the passwords.

Maybe you should use RSA to lock up the passwords so you can get them back if the person forgets your part. You encrpyt their passwords in a file, give to a third part who holds a public key that only you can decrypt with their private key...a la Verisign and others on the net

pretty nifty... i'd like to see 401k.com, ingdirect.com, <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://online.firstusa.com/bolHome.aspx?partner=amazon">http://online.firstusa.com/bolHome.aspx?partner=amazon</a><!-- m -->, discovercard.com

not too useful for sites that auto log you in though... like mm, honda-tech, and a couple of other forums.

edit: i suppose it will still be useful for those sites when i'm not at my personal machine.

good shit! market this well and you're set! Tongue

Public key encryption wasnÔÇÖt a feasible model for the site. Even if we would have designed it that way (and thereÔÇÖs no turning back now), we wanted it to be impossible to recover passwords. We didnÔÇÖt want Agatra to hold the key to anything and we wanted the security of usersÔÇÖ passwords is in their own hands.

jack, fix the heading font... "News" "Manage Accounts" "Help." Serif looks cheesey when the rest of the site is sans.

Cool idea, nice execution. Thought about an easy API or interface that would allow users to add sites on their own?

There is an issue with password length. I entered a 19-character password (for the main Agatra login) and was told it was too short. Tried a 7-character password, it worked fine. My personal opinion is that there shouldn't be a limit on password length, especially if one password rules them all, and in the darkness binds them.

Having problems with tabs too. It would be great to just middle-click on the links and get a new tab, rather than have to spawn a new window.

Cool idea. Good luck with it. I'll try it out when I get a change.

Is the blue font a little hard for anyone else to read? A few shades dark might help.

Some responses:

1. Tabs aren't going to work. Sorry Sad... I really wanted them to, but the way it's written (I'd love to give you a tour), tabs can't work until Firefox or the W3C makes some JS to do it.
2. Password length problem fixed. Thanks John!
3. Easy API to add sites yourself... YES :-) . I have thought of that, and I'm deciding on which way to implement it. I'm thinking that during the add site process, if your site isn't supported, you'll have the option to input a form as per the API. Many details need to be worked out.
