My buddy's pile is stalling out on him. It's 92 Temp w/auto trans. 2.3 liter.
When the car gets hot, it dies on him. He also thinks it only happens at low speeds. After searching around, I can't eliminate a single problem because apparently, a lot of things can stall out Tempos/Topazes. Problems I've read w/ similar issues. Ignition control module, ICC solenoid, TPS. He did a tune-up recently I believe. Also, he's leaking coolant. He needs this car to run for a few more months while he prepares to buy his another car. Got any ideas or some good ford forums I can search?

do those cars have a MAF? also, how old is the fuel filter? could be a vac leak too.
i had a friend in high school who had a tempo. one day he turned on the heater as he was leaving after school, and it shot flames out of the vents. he was surprised, got out of the car, then watched as it burned to the ground right there in the parking lot.

I'd try the TFI (ignition control module). It should be attached to the side of the distributor. If you take it off, Advance Auto can test it I believe. If that's not it, it is probably the TPS.
As for the leaking coolant, I reccomend fixing that ;-)

I'd be willing to put money on the TFI ignition module. The distributer mounted ones generally suck. My truck did the same thing,ran until it got hot and then cut off on me.

Replaced the ignition control module, drove the car around. Not a problem. My buddy drove it to the post office today and it cut out on him again. Any other ideas

Have you tried pulling the codes from the computer - that is where I would start. If it were an SHO I would say a crank position sensor - happens whenever the motor gets hot, and wont start again until it has cooled off (I have no idea if the Tempo even has a CPS though...)

No codes, but not a big deal. His Range Rover Sport came in yesterday and now he can be done with the Tempo. There's talk of a plasma cutter but there's also talk of safety. We'll see which one wins out.
