If you're looking for a cheap but cool new car...

Look no further than the Honda Fit. It was the number 1 selling car in Japan when it came out in 2000 (I think it held the title for awhile) and we'll finally be getting it sometime this year.

What makes the Fit cool is that its a pretty well equipped car for only about $10K. Its small but has a lot of usable interior, the rear seats even fold flat into the floor like the Odyssey. As an added bonus, the 200 hp and 220 hp K-series engines both fit in the 2250 lb (when fully equipped) Fit.

Here's the story: http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=195188

If you need a cheap car and you don't want an Accent or Scion...

Reminds me of an EP bus Tongue I actually kinda like the Scions, I can't wait to see what the aftermarket does for them.

with a 200+hp K series it would be the "super bus"... why are the hatches these days coming with such high CG?

Nah I doubt that. The Fit was designed for Japan/Europe first as was the EP3 so I think Japanese/European tastes are to blame. The Japanese and European are definitely nowhere near as fat and lazy as Americans are. I think part of the reason is so that more space and features can be crammed into a hatchback so that they seem more roomy. I can't imagine its that people in Japan/Europe are getting much taller you know?

Hehe I was partly kidding. You're right, these cars come from Japan where horizontal space is at a premium. So what does Honda do? The same thing architects there do, build upward Smile

I still don't like it...

Well the big thing with a car like the Fit would be traction. Its FWD and I don't think 17 inch wheels would fit so you'd probably be limited to 16's at the most. Once at speed though this thing could scoot with the best of them.

Power to Weight Ratio (lbs/hp approx)
M3: 10.21
Fit (w/K20A 220hp): 10.23
350Z: 11.14
Fit (w/K20A2 200hp): 11.25
S2000: 11.66
WRX: 13.59
RSX-S: 13.6

The K-series motors have been gaining around 20-30 with bolt ons and up to 60+ hp with cams, I/H/E, and ECU reflash. With that kind of power to weight ratio those little cars could be a lot of fun.

this little thing kinda reminds me of that racecar nissan made as a publicity stunt. it's a nissan micra with the 350Z's engine mounted midship (a.k.a renault clio style) with something like 320 horses. apparently that car is a hellacious ride. i'd love to see more k20 modded cars in the near future.

but yeah back on topic. looks like a classy little ride, although the styling is a little too much like a mini-van.

Gerald, you're in American Samoa, you need to go out rather than coming up with numbers to bench race with Tongue

Can't go out while I'm still at work. Its been extra slow today for some reason. Probably cause everyone is on island time here. They even drive slow (speed limit is 20-25).

I think the reason they can have a 20-25 mph speed limit is because there aren't any sportscars here. Almost EVERYBODY has a truck. Mostly Toyotas too, with some Nissan and a few Ford F150's in the mix.

There are almost no Hondas nor anything b00sted over here so it makes it easy to drive slow. Otherwise it would destroy their laid back way of life. Imagine that, an island unspoiled by b00st rot.

Now Rob, why would I make a post about being able to buy a Fit, if we weren't going to be able to buy the Fit?

And as they say on slashdot, RTFA Tongue

Silence fool! That there is devil talk and I'll have none of that. We need to load up some turbo cars and ship them over, just to show them what they're missing out on.
Eh, it would ruin the chill attitude though. Might as well keep it nice and slow like it should be.
