DIY immobilizer system
#1
i've read quite a few good articles from this site. seeing the thread on H-burg thefts made me think of this article:

its a really neat concept. i can't read wiring diagrams for crap but i kind of understand what's going on. in a nutshell, you use a magnet as a way to immobilize your car when you swipe the magnet past a special hidden switch you install in any place you like.

Sounds cool, but a little more wiring then I'd feel like doing.
I already have the fuel pump rewired with a kill switch and as Chris can attest, if you don't know about it it just seems like the car doesn't want to start.

*edit, I kinda suck with wiring but if anyone wants to do it I read the how to and it won't be hard.

**edited again.

Quote:Finally, if your car has an electric fuel pump, the immobiliser can disable this. However, note that both EFI and carby cars will still start and run for a short period even with the fuel pump stopped. This might be just enough time for the thief to drive to the middle of the nearest major road intersection before the car dies!

I don't know how it works with most other cars, but this is not the case with mine.
