Also, will someone please explain to me this morbid fascination with eating Ramen to have an M3? I mean yes, they're cooler than an eskimo's nutsack but are they cool enough to STARVE for?

Jesus feersty, there are other cars in the sea, and other fish on the lot. Or something.

A guy I work with. He's moving to a non-miata-friendly area (The Woods) and needs something a little more 4WDish. So, 3000. Well he said to me, "I'd probably sell it to you for 2500 to 3000" and then I told him I bought a DSM, but I'm sure I'd have no problem finding some buyers for him.

Anyone interested?

Honestly, I'm getting tired of these Feersty + Car threads. I think we always say the same crap and the same crap always happen. Feerst w/o a car.

Feersty, buy a 3k car. Throw ~1k into shocks, springs, safety, maintenance parts and get track time. Why buy a car you won't be able to handle? If you get an M3, would you even want to drive it hard especially if you're still making payments?

Shit gets expensive really quickly. Since I've bought the MR2, I've bought shocks, springs, bushings, shock mounts, sway bars, belts, a few new gaskets, new calipers, street pads/rotors, track pads/rotors, a helmet, gloves and All this stuf is normal upgrades/maintenance stuff. Don't forget to account for that. Not to mention, when you start making money, all of sudden you start "needing" a whole lot more stuff than you did when you were unemployed.

not really, he's not thinking of the whole picture on his own. we're trying to help him realize it. i read when i was car shopping that you should spend no more than one third of your annual income on a car. it's a pretty good rule if you ask me...

there are a lot of cars under 10k in which you can have fun in and not have to live off ramen noodles with.

lol, nice Maeng.
Rob, hold on to your horses for a month. Look to see how much money you REALLY have after each month (not just speculation). Then, if you want to, determine that to be twice your maximum car payment. Soooo. If you make 2000/month, and bill equal 1000, then make your max car payment 500. That will leave you 500/month for modification and maitenance. Furthermore, you may have trouble financing an older car. I didn't open the links, but most banks won't touch a car that is more than 10 years old and are hesitant with anything over 5 years old. That is something to keep in mind. If you have 7k saved up already, I'd say to buy something that is 4k, dump the other 3k into a mutual fund or retirement, then use your extra money each month to modify it. Yeah, 4k won't get you an M3, but it can get you something fun and reasonable. Not to mention that, and I'm not hating on you here but just stating facts, an M3 is a far cry from a buick. Perhaps a FWD with more power or a RWD with less power would be a good intermediate for you to learn with before stepping up to the M. That will make your learning curve so much better and give you more slack in terms of learning how a platform and power are integrated to make a car.

I ultimately ask for input because I don't know what owning a car is like. The cars I have gotten were given to me. I mean FWD would be something I would consider. If I went that route then yes probably an EK hatch. If RWD it looks like a Miata is the only thing in my range. But yes I will keep waiting. I just get anxious cause I feel like my passion for "racing" isn't exuded to the fullest unless I have a car that is semi worthy. I want to show you guys that I am as big into road racing as anyone else, just don't have the tool yet to do it, which is a huge issue.

Rob,

theres really nothing to prove here, when the time comes to get on the track then the time comes... Mike and .RJ have been hassling me since the day I met them to get my POS on the track and the time has finally come (some 2 years later Tongue)

First figure out your financials before you dig yourself a hole thats to deep to get out of...
