I dunno, I have to wonder about these articles. GT4 does a good job of modeling tracks but I still the physics are too arcadey. Everytime I read an article that uses real drivers that inevitably say, "this is pretty realistic" I have to wonder. I wonder if they say that because their expectations were low in the first place.

Still, GT4 and the like are a good way to learn tracks you haven't been to. I'm sure when I do Suzuka and Nurburgring I'll have no trouble at all Tongue

Good article man. So that means I really can drive a Mclaren F1 race car a lap around the track at 140 and not crash Wink

I think you hit the nail on the head. They're impressed because they aren't gamers and don't have much to compare it to. And for the most part, GT does a good job. They just don't know there's better....

As far as the tracks go, that's mostly what this article is talking about, and I have to agree, they did a decent job on the tracks. Good enough that you're in the same gear in the same places, elevation is about right, that sort of thing. But even with the tracks, I don't think the laptimes come out close, so obviously something isn't quite right. Nurburgring for instance, it's just faster in the game. Maybe because the surface has too much grip in the game? Don't know why.

A few years ago I read that Juan Montoyo used the F1 games to become familiar with the tracks.

Yeah some of the F1 guys have done it/do it and some of the Moto GP guys use the Moto GP games (Namco: Moto GP2) to learn the tracks too.
