300psi is way too high for even a honda motor. your gauge is whack, don't trust any numbers it's shooting out.

I should test my motor out too, but im afraid..
let me borrow the hatch and I'll test out your motor for you...
I've been checking my hoses for leak. I found this tear in the hose that goes from the throttle body (FITV section) to the IACV.
Not sure if this is the cause of the problem or if I ripped this while trying to find the problem. I'm hoping that this is the cause of the problem and all I have to do is replace this. We'll find out tomorrow when I go get a new hose. After that I'll be flushing the coolant system, spraying more carb cleaner, adjusting the idle screw also.
Thanks for the help so far guys.

I'm in nova..... any day really

If this tells you anything... recommended cranking compression spec on a D16A6 is 192psi. I've tested two of them recently, came out between 180 and 190psi. 300psi is way the hell too high even with you piston/head setup.
Throwing some oil down in the cylinders should add 20psi+ artificially. We saw something pretty interesting on one of the D-series while compression testing it. There's an o-ring that goes between the valve cover and head around each spark plug portal. This was leaky on one of the portals. There was probably a solid half inch of oil sitting up around the base of the sparkplug. When we removed the plug, that oil dumped into the cylinder. Upon testing that cylinder, it showed 215psi where the rest had been at 188-190. We put the plug back in, fired the car up to burn off the extra oil and retested it. BAM, 190psi.

fixed the leak, less violent fluctuation, but still a little bit. started bouncing from 1300-1500. I turned the throttle body screw down all the way and got it to idle at 800ish. Much better than before!
I'm hoping that once i bleed the coolant, it'll be dandy... until I get to the compression problem.
good work Christo. at least you can drive it around town in a somewhat civil manner again.

Looks like it only wanted to behave for a day. Revs still bounce around a little bit, but eventually settles at 1100rpm... still too high.
Just flushed/bled my coolant, no real change.
I noticed that my rad fan never comes on also... god... POS
Radiator fans are overrated. On my old Accord mine would activate at random times while the car was off and often kill the battery. Solution? Pull the fan's fuse. Ran that way for two years and was only an issue one time when stuck in traffic on 81.

got pissed off, took apart the IACV, throttle body, and intake manifold. put everything back together, crossed my fingers... and it's much better now.
also, my valves are tapping like crazy. I imagine that that might have an effect on my shitty idle.

Not like the 8:1 slugs in your 98hp beast!
bah! My motor shows 170 something after 3 cranks thank you very much. BTW, acording to this handy dandy unverifiable chart I found on the interweb, extending the line out to 300psi would be what, 14 or 15:1? Maybe your honda is a diesel?
I dunno... Mugen thin headgasket + civic typeR pistons are pretty crazy.
anyways... I don't think i put my throttle body back together right. The gas pedal pressure is feather light... kinda of annoying, anyone know how to increase the pressure?
I'm kind of scared to touch anything in the engine bay now that everything is working right.

not 15:1 crazy.

Thats still @ 13.5:1 on the PR3 head I think.....
Eek. No thanks.

did you check the throttle cable? it could be hung up or need readjustment.

could maybe be stretched and need replacement too.
