GONE!
.

.
.
.
just kidding of course.
RJ, Lorena and I spent the last 2 days pulling out the old sorta-busted lump and transferring the stuff to a new one

new* engine in foreground, old one in background
[Image: old_and_new_650.jpg]

another shot
[Image: old_and_new2_650.jpg]

and the obilgatory "standing in the engine bay" shot
[Image: standing_in_engine_650.jpg]

mucho thanks to RJ and Lorena for helping out, and thanks to G for the engine hoist (and for the entertainment while watching him try to put it together)

*by "new", I mean 100k mile junkyard motor out of a wrecked car. hopefully less busted than the one in there now. If its not, that would be awesome.

I'd like to see you take those caster wheels off then try to put them back on asshole. I am never assembling anything from Harbor Freight again.

This particular junker cost me $400, mainly because its got 100k on it. Lower mile motors run closer to $700. I bought the motor from Bret at RP, and it came out of a wrecked car. Of course I easily spent the same amount as the motor on all the seals, hoses, belts, gaskets, water pump, motor mounts...etc

no, new engine is not in. The compression numbers that Bret told me were very solid.
Next up is to finish the little stuff like all the hoses (quite a PITA actually...), paint the valve cover ( :bling: ) valve cover gasket, clean the engine bay, and some other stuff Im forgetting.
Order a clutch, and install it when it gets here.

Im having impure thoughts about sending the old head to Sunbelt for some voodoo magic, and rebuilding the bottom end..............
maybe if I have $2500 or so just laying around.....

pulling shit out is the easy part. putting it all back together is when "two hour" jobs become eight.

....and then having a bunch of important looking bolts left over and not knowing where they go

400 bucks for a motor is awesome Evan. that leaves plenty of money for ITB's, or maybe a call to Flyin' Miata....

Left over bolts and part just means you put it back together more effectively than the designers planned. :-D

I think evan had about 37 ziplock bags and a bunch of little plastic bins.... probably a smart idea when we put it back in next week.

Don't forget a RED sharpie (different color than grease) and write more info than you think you need at the time....like the longer one goes in the back, etc.
