Some of the best mechanics in the world own harleys.

They have to be! HARHARHAR.

If I were going to purchase a motorcycle, it would be a Buell, no question. Great styling, awesome innovations, and let's not forget that unmistakable Harley Davidson Made in America Don't-get-lippy-with-me-boy-or-so-help-me-you'll-be-shitting-your-teeth-for-a-month exhaust tone.

I mean, what's not to like?

I've heard a couple of guys on the Speed Channel forums complain about problems with their Buells and the general prevailing attitude about them is that they're not very well put together. Supposedly they've been improving in the last few years but its hard to say where they're at right now.

They have character and are considered to be fun and easy to handle (compared to the monstrous output of the current super sports). I'd have to read up a bit more in bike mags to find out about the reliability.

i figure the reliablity with beull's is near the reliability of harley's. I haven't read too many complaints about harley's

The Buell's aren't supposed to be quite as reliable as run of the mill Harleys because they're so high strung... those Sportster engines don't make all that much power. The handling is supposedly pretty quirky and they're slow in a straight line. Torque for miles, though.

They make decent streetbikes but out on the track they're outclassed by, well, everything. I'm not a fan on their ergos, something odd about them. Blah blah blah, bitch moan, but I still think they're damn cool machines and I'd ride one in a heartbeat.
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

i was looking to buy a bike at the end of this summer and i was contemplating between the buell xb9r, suzuki gsx 750, kawasaki ninja, or a yamaha YZF R6. i like and don't like the buell. i like it because it is different, both styling and sound. but i am wary of buying one because i don't know very much about the company. i do know they have the harley v-twin and are very reliable (says the sales person). on a side note does anyone know why the yamahas are so cheap? are they just crap or what?

The V-twin is not so much the point of failure as it is the other components. Cracked transmission casings, bad welds, and other knick knacks are what I hear about Buells. Get on DCsportbikes.net and ask around, there might be some current or former owners that can give you the scoop.

I agree with you on the stying, very unique and futuristic. Some people don't like them but then again some people don't like the Ducati 749/999 either.

Don't really know why Yamahahas are cheaper. They're not crap bikes that's for sure. If you got an R6 I don't think you'd be disappointed.

thats weird that other things would fail on the bike. just looking at the thing it was built like a brick shithouse. every piece on the bike was metal besides one vanity plate on the gas tank. all the buell's looked very solid, but that was just from a visual inspection. i am gonna check around about them.

just looking on ebay for some prices yamahas are very cheap compared to other bikes (gsx, gsx-r, ninja, cbr...etc) i've seen alot of 5 year old low milage yamahas selling for like 2k, where the others are 4-5k. i didn't know if this was because of poor craftsmanship or poor performance. you usually get what you pay for.....

yamahas are actually the most popular bikes right now. Which would explain why scammers would use them

Wait a min, I think he was referring to the pushrod v-twins. Whenever I hear pushrod I think V8. Thought maybe was talking about the boss hoss or something.

The Buell V-twins are adequate but I think they need to be more impressive if they want to woo more sportbike riders. All of the sport v-twins make much more power and about the same torque as the top of the line XB12R Firebolt. Buell needs to kind of go on its own trajectory so that more sporting enthusiasts will buy them. Slapping the Harley V-Rod motor in there with a few tweaks would be a big step in the right direction.

Harley's been tearing up the drag circuits as of late too. Even gsxr's arent hanging. So much so that the teams are having to use restrictor plates...and are still winning some. crazy

Yeah, now that Harley has put their mind to it they are experiencing considerable success. I hope they put some of that performance and engineering into the Buells to help them hang with the Japanese (and Italian) supersports.
