hey guys, wanted to post a picture from our soapbox derby race a few weeks ago. Notice the car is proudly displaying the MM logo on the side, underneath our other sponsors. We had a great day, finishing in 2nd place. Brandon lost first place by only 2/1000 of a second. We never lost a heat all day unitl the final double elimination shootout. While we were disapointed in not returnng to Akron for the Championships, we were pleased to be in the final because this was his first time in that style of car, and the car was new and had a few bugs to be worked out. We will be ready for next year and try again. You can see more pics at my photo page at the link below.
Thanks

wow, congrats on getting so far in the competition....when it's that close, too! and a big thanks for sporting the MM on the side!
i'm amazed at how aero those things are. i wasn't sure what i was looking at when i first studied your car, then i realized the driver's head fits flush into the fairing! that's pretty awesome.

Thanks Mike. The reason we moved up to the Masters Division was because we won the Super Stock division last year, and once you do that and go to Akron, you can't race in that division again, and the new car we built last year no longer can be raced either once it wins. It got marked and tagged in Akron, so we had to move up to the next and final division. Had we won this year, Brandon's derby racing would be finished because there are no higher divisions. However, there is what is called the Rally Circuit. We can race all of our cars at various rally race events held around the country in certain cities. You can earn points and qualify for Akron as a Rally racer. We did a few of these last year just for fun and actually placed third in Culpeper, beating 2 cars that beat us in Akron.
Size and age do however have a part in determining which class to run in. We started him at age 9 in the stock division and he raced that car for 3 years but was getting to big, so last year we moved up to super stock, a larger and heavier car. We would still be racing that one had he not won last year. The masters car is a lot tighter though and I am hoping he does not have a major growth spurt during the summer or he may not be able to get into it next year.
