Picked up a set of twin turbo rims yesterday for a whooping $250. He sold them real cheap because the chrome is peeling off. Now comes the challenge of getting the rest of the chrome off. Anyone got any keen ideas of how to do it besides sanding it? Rex told me about this talc-strip stuff that I'm going to try.
These are the pictures that he took, I haven't taken any since I picked them up. The fronts are 17x8" and the rears are 17x9.5".

Rock on - probably aircraft stripper like he said.
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

Would sandblasting them completely destroy them?
no, sandblasting them would not destory them, but I'm not sure who could do it or how much it would cost.
Oh, Feersty, TT wheels only came in 3 finishes, so there was a 1 in 3 chance I was gonna copy him . I'll probably end up getting them powdercoated.

Strip them and paint them bronze!

I think a black powdercoat would look mean on the car, but I honestly think a polish look fits the red better. As for stripping, I'm not convinced that 'blasting them would hurt it enough that sandblasting couldn't cover it up.

after having a red car with dark wheels, i think a silver/brushed look would be better IMO
After reading up on it, sandblasting them would pit them so badly that they would never be smooth again. Tal-strip didn't even tarnish the finish on the chrome, so it looks like I'll be having them stripped at a shop. Anyone know of a good shop?

VERY nice.. whatever finish you go with the wheels will make your car much cooler  now it will be hard for the average person to call it out as a None TT.

very true. Still needs a set of big brakes tho.
I think at this point the only way to tell mine isn't a TT is no front intercooler or looking at the shifter (aside from the obvious lack of engine)
ive gotten pretty good with spotting the stock side mounts.. but the average person would never know.. shit you guys got the fast and furious cars.. WOW hahahaha

IF you plan to track w/ those wheels DO NOT powercoat them. Powercoating wheels will weaken them and with race rubber on and at speed could cause them to crack. I've got a few pics around here somwhere of powercoated wheels cracked.

I dont buy it - the temps used to cure powdercoating will not harm the metal at all, and thats how plenty of aftermarket wheels are finished.

Who knows of a shop in va that could bead blast those rims for me to get the chrome off? I've called several shops around the burg and some of them do sandblasting, but nothing else. I don't care to drive to the NOVA/DC area to get them done. Thanks.

I was told that sandblasting aluminum wheels will pit them pretty badly.
