I'm sure we have more than $400 in the MM account. Use that to bridge the gap, then pay the money back to the club after fundraising gets into swing.

There is still the issue of where we can store 4 cars.......
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

Well, for $120/month we can store about 2 in a storage place Chris found. I'm sure we could finagle a place to store 2 more cars. If we offered someone a little cash to store 'em we could probably store it at someone's house. Jdawg, would u have room for a car or two?
How about VA Mustang, VBD, Bimmerworld, or any of the other businesses we know?

Alright, the gentleman has been contacted via email and I feel confident he will get back to me. I'll negotiate to the best price possible. As such, I need two things from the club:
1. At what point will we get them? In the heat of negotiation, if I get him down to $800 or less, I want the ability to tell him "OK, Deal." If I tell him, "Ok, now that I've got you down in price, let me see if we can do this..." the momentium will be gone and he'll be less likely to keep it at that low price.
2. Are we serious? I don't want to waste the guys time if we are not. Personally, I'd like to at least see pictures first, which I'm also working on. If we are serious, we have two immediate logistical hurdles to overcome - transportation and storage. Perhaps a "convoy" of trucks (Mine, Johns, G's, anyone else?) could rent 4 trailers and go pick them up. Say that works, where may we store them?
I see storage as the biggest challenge. I would offer to store one at my place but I already get gripes from my homeowners assoc about the ruckas I cause with cars.
We could get four people with a place for one car and split the cars up. Being Summer, we could quickly figure out which cars have what parts, find our "main" car, and then strip/junk the rest. Renting a storage unit would then leave us with one car to park somewhere and a storage unit full of parts.
The V-8 swap can definately be done. I wish I had more parts to donate, but I keep a pretty slim selection due to limited storage space.
Lately there have been some advances in the XR community using GM limited slips and MegaSquirt control units. Pretty nifty. Also, for an effort like GRM, I feel that the XR community would be pretty generous.
Hit me up with thoughs on committment, like I said, I'm not going to waste this guys time if we're not serious.
Thanks!
Peter

Can we handle this via the MM paypal account to consolidate everyone's donations?

I'm in for that.
PDenbigh Wrote:Say that works, where may we store them?
I can take at least one, maybe two. These will *not* become permanent fixtures in my driveway - I will hang on to them through the GRM build and then they go adios.
My two feet.
Pete. Well, we hav 600 dollars committed. If the MM officers agree, 800 would be an excellent bargaining place.
Storage of cars -- this will be an issue. I can take one car for sure, maybe more, but definitely not 4. Jeff, does your family have any room?
Also, if we're talking semi-long-term storage, I could probably store more than one in Winchester, but I'd have to ask.
Transportation will be less of a problem when we know where they are. It may be that we can make more than one trip...
Also, to everyone who is contributing money...with four cars, I see no reason why you shouldn't get your money BACK after parts sales. Heck, if we can get two cars running, sell one for a grand, we still have a GRM car and two parts cars.
But we need to know what people think. Alot of people have seen this, but many haven't. Send people to this thread, have them post yea or nay so that Pete and I know where the club stands. This is a fantastic opportunity, I don't need to tell you, and it's clear we can be competitive.
It's up to the club. Most importantly, we need to hear dissenting opinions, if anyone disagrees with these cars SPEAK NOW.

theres a guy out near rex where Dave has done a lot of work on his cars. He has a lot of space and might store them if we gave him some cash.
have to ask Dave first though.

by the way, wont the cost of trailors have to be factored into the GRM money cost of transporting the vehicle around?

just a thought about car storage - cant you just dump them in some guest spots at an apartment complex, theres been this geo metroish dihatsu thinger in a guest spot for about half a year here in p run

no, only parts have to be factored in. supplies and tools and transportation do not.
I'm going to guess you guys will want to drop a 302 in this hu? Well start looking on ebay for an old explorer engine. 150k is not a lot of miles for those motors.

There needs to be clarification on that. Transportation cost as in towing or driving or what?

I know someone in this club has a trailer we could use for one day. I think the transportation thing is a little screwy - do they really expect people to include U-Hall rental fees and gas into the total?

I say we jump on this, to get more money to put towards the project we should just sell the motor that you have Rex and over the summer I can sell the one that is at my dad's...b/w the two of them I would think that we should be able to get $100 to 200 for them.
