so, as you might remember, i'm unemployed. i can't seem to get anywhere. i know walking out on my last job is going to haunt me, but i'll deal with it over going nuts in a place that was becoming downright degrading to me.
so the girlfriend and i are talking about school again. i figured since you guys are going there, you might have the skinny on things or at least know who i need to talk to about it.
are there adult continuing educations classes, scholarships and what not available to me? i need to get a life and it seems going to school is the only way it's going to happen. i would like to get into the technology areas like computers, networking.
i dropped out in 10th grade, but went back for GED in 2001. if that helps any.

my recommendation is to go straight to the admissions office and ask to speak to someone. They're very straight forward as far as telling you what's available. That'd be where I'd start. If it's something you want to do... go for it. :thumbs up:
if JMU doesnt work out or its hard to get in there is always Blue Ridge CC right down the road

and, there is also the option of transferring. You're in a great location considering that within 15 minutes you have Elon, BRCC, Bridgewater, and JMU. If JMU won't take you, I know you could go to BRCC for as little as a semester and probably transfer in from there. Like Jack said, go for the jugular. The admissions office the the place to go to; they'll point you in the right direction on what you need to do and how to go about doing it. Big thumbs up for pursuing what YOU want.
I'm a highschool drop out with a GED who transfered in after receiving a 3.0 for one semester at Norther Virginia Community College.
I think doing something like that would be your best bet.

I'm with Travis. Take a couple of classes at BRCC so you can get use to school again. That's the hardest part I think. Brush up on the basics especially math if you are planning tech stuff. Then go from there. JMU has a program that if you receive a at least a 2.7 for 1 or 2 years, can't remember which, you're guaranteed a spot in the program.
 Going back to school is scary but well worth it.

I'm doing the NVCC/BRCC thing now. May transfer to JMU in a few semesters or some other university (GMU, VCU).
Talk to admissions or a guidance counselor.

Elon, Dave?
You sure you don't mean EMU? Cuz if Elon's 15 minutes away, you must be driving a fighter jet.

lol, sorry, I meant EMU. Im dumb.
Hey, Check out www.br.cc.va.us (BRCC website), you can go up there and apply for an application and then depending on what you want to pursue you will probably have to take the College Preparedness Test. That will put you in a curriculum to help you get prepared for college level classes. Their advisors up there will fit you in a schedule, that you can work with. Also BRCC offers a excellent transfer program to JMU. So its kind of cool to start your foot there and get all of your gen ed classes out of the way and then work on your core classes at JMU if you decide to go there as well.
