OK guys, need some help.
I love Chad's little remote mount camera that he uses out on track that feeds back into his digital camcorder. Where can I get one of these setups for a decent price that will still have good quality recording?
On a side note, I don't intend on installing a rollbar, seats, harnesses and all that jazz at the moment. I wanted to make sure that it would be okay if I devised a cushioned container for my camcorder which could be affixed to the car so that it could not come loose and still pass tech.

What's your price range?

i'd get a digital video recorder that has the appropriate inputs, a mic, and a lipstick camera. no need to worry about it breaking, no fussing with tapes, toss it in the glovebox. somebody on HT posted something up about this recently, i just can't seem to find it.

This is what I have, however. If I were you, I'd get a Sony (or better canon) that has the inputs for a remote on/off switch. This way when you are strapped in the belts w/ your helmet on and they start sending people out on grid all you have to do is push the button on the dash and not unbuckle and reach back to turn on the camera. I've been going down the front straight trying to hook the 6pt before, and it ain't fun.

This is the setup that I was using for the remote camera,

http://www.chasecam.com/
(Bullett Cam - http://www.chasecam.com/bulletcam.htm)
(The one I was using was a prototype, I don't think he is actually producing it yet, Hi-Res)
Then I had this mount,

And this mount,

This is the button I was talking about,

You will also want a mic (or two if you want to do stero).

Also get a DC adapter, don't fuss w/ batteries, that camera will EAT them like no business. Hardwire power if you have to. I think the whole setup that I have runs about 350 minus the camera. So that leaves another 250 for a decent video recorder.

He is actually working on a solid state device that you hook the camera into and it records digital video directly to a memory device, then you plug that into a computer and have the raw AVI's. (http://www.chasecam.com/pdr/) No price so I assume it isn't finished yet. Saves time downloading the video to a computer (in real time) and keeps you from having to have a camera mount. This will be my next video related purchase.

doesn't look like that is shaping up to be all that it should have been.

did you read the thread? who wants to have an additional piece of equipment to remember just to aim the thing? i'd seriously consider the product if it had a built-in lcd that displayed video.

oh I gottcha. Well, you can just set it up in the paddock and then unplug the camera and plug in the recorder. What did you expect, it to have an LCD for $300?

okay, I'm not really good with this stuff. My estimate on $600 was a bit more than I would really like, so let's say $400. Can you please make it easy on me and list off the different parts for this setup and then the inputs that I'll need to hook it into the camera. I won't be "mounting" it into the car, so that kind of stuff is kinda irrelevant to me.
RJ, what kind of camera do you have? I was watching a couple of your vids yesterday and I like the quality.

Canon ZR60.

You can get one of those (or a newer one... ZR65.. ZR80, etc) off ebay or craigslist for pretty cheap.

Dave, have you seen scotty's setup? I don't think it gets much cheaper than what he's doing. I'll let him tell you about.

If the 400 includes the camera you will not get a decent bullitt cam setup with that.

i don't want to have to buy a camcorder if i'm going that route. if i had one lying around (like some people do) i'd be more likely to preorder from him, but that is just another expense Sad

OK, so here's what I think I'm going to do
camera ~300
lipstick camera ~150
remote mic ~30
hardwire the power supply

I want to know what I need to look for on the camera's specifics in order to know it can support these? How will I make it so that I can run it off the car's battery? I'm also worried about storing the videos. What do I need to look into in order to actually use this camera (I'd like to not have to change anything until the end of the day). Can I just buy a few larger cassettes/disks, or does this relate to the camera that I buy? Please help! Smile
