Race car for someone (CRX)

The valley trader has a 90 CRX "drag car" listed. 6 point roll cage, no interior, no engine, 400 bucks. I don't know how a gutted car with stock suspension be a "drag" car and not a road course car, but if anyone that lives far away is interested, i can check it out for them.

certainly not an awful deal, but you can pick up lots of older hondas (that still run) for less than a grand. they probably need body work, but...

drag cage is made to sustain a front to back flip... road race is meant to sustain rolls as well. someone correct me if i'm wrong.

thats kinda weird. the majority of major accidents i see on drag race wrecks are rollovers due to hitting the wall at a hard angle. never seen a drag racer do end over end flips down the strip :lol:

I don't know what the specific reason is, maybe our resident NASA Tech guy can chime in here, but I do know that a drag cage does not pass the NASA Tech inspection when it comes time for a race.

Drag "cages" on most levels... ARE NOT as strick as the CCR.

I've got the 136 pages on my desk at work... i read it to refresh my memory when the network goes down (every day).

most of the main differences come in how many "bends" the halo, hoop, and other "sections" of the cage can have.

also the door bars and bracing are different. I'm sure the piper "X" would work for drag racing... but with Nasa at least you have to have "l l" for the rear bars. Also from what i have picked up here an there with diagnal hoop bars are optional. one thing the CCR is weak on that drag racing cages seem to actaulyl focus on is the foot well protection.

this is all dealing with unibody cars with out tube front halfs... the "pure" race cars (tube frames, both drag and RR) are actually very similar in build from what i have seen.

i just helped put in a cage at BandT for a "drift" car... the customer bought the autopower race roll bar with optional "weld-it" front half. We just do what a customer asks but i REALLY would have liked to tell him to sell the roll bar... take the extra money for the "weld-it" section and go to Piper. After installing the cage i was the only one that could get in the car with a helmet and not bang my head on the halo. Its technically drag and RR legal... but i wasnt real thrilled with it though. I actually started liking Gs kirk cage much more after looking at that crappy 240z kit.

What the fuck is this supposed to mean? You mean an NHRA certified cage for a pro outlaw drag car is not a legal cage? Because according to the body that sanctions the events that car will compete in...it is.

anger management my friend, anger management. it means since it is specified as a drag car, it is probably a drag cage. since it is so cheap i made a guess that the cage probably isn't even a legal one.

Let me try to put this to rest. if it is a "drag" car... with a "drag" cage... it MIGHT pass well enough for HPDE. BUT HPDE caged cars do have to meet the CCR.

As i stated before, that Autopower set up is deamed legal in both the "drag" world and the "RR" world... but has its short coming. Most production drag cars with cages that i have personally seen (since i hang out at BandT and they are all drag racers) will not pass tech inspection for NASA.

Most of us play under the CCR. I know some of you go to the 1/4 strips... some people might be into circle track racing... i dont know... but IF its a "drag" cage its mostly likely going to be deamed "unsafe" at NASA events.

Circle Track cages are different than Drag cages... and they are different from RR cages. Each has their own philosophy. I advise not buying the car because i would hate to NOT let you on track.

at the same time though, a cage is only really that pertinent if you are "racing". We could do an HPDE regardless of what kind of cage, correct?

Not according to NASA - if it has a cage, it has to conform to the CCR. Same with harnesses, seats, etc.

But then again, the instructors tech the cars..... so if they dont have a problem with it...
