I like the game a lot. I went and played it at my friend Mikes house yesterday for several hours. We got all the licenses but didn't play much other than that. Did a few free runs, it is definantely more realistic.

were you using the simulation tires? cause i notice oversteer with them.

i was thinking, for the B-Spec thing, can't you just run like an endurance race for your car, and go to sleep, have it run, and the next morning collect the cash? or can you not map out when you want everything to happen? cause I know you have to tell it when to pit, but can you lay out when beforehand?

Ok boys and girls, the guys I play SOCOM II with have all gotten into GT4 with me. We have our own message board for what we have going on in our games and we're starting a GT4 challenge. A ton of people from H-T have crossed over and will be participating but I want to see MM representation. Mike and RJ are already over there, so head over to this board, sign up, and post up in the Gran Turismo 4 General Discussion.

http://jla.myunite.net

JLA = Justice League of America, which is my Clan for SOCOM II, so you'll notice quite a few people on there with comic book character names. We've also created our own kills and general bs sections for screwing around in. Hope to see you guys there. The challenge starts on 2/28.

well I'm impressed. I was expecting almost no improvement in the feel of the cars, but the numbness from 3 is gone, hamfisted inputs are punished a little more, and overall it seems to be a much more realistic model they're using. Dropping a wheel off track at turn in should be, and now is, a disaster! And getting on the curbing in some spots is incredibly upsetting. I've completely lost the car doing some high speed corner clipping in spots where I used to get away with it. There seems to be some sort of phantom traction control on corner exits and launches that wasn't there before. I thought we had it off, but hopefully that's a setting we were too lazy to find? I'd say they went a little more towards the "simulation" side of things without alienating people. Most excellent.

And the re-mapped tracks are great, like Laguna, that's awesome. Now I have to re-learn em all over again. Tongue

RJ and I also ran 5 laps on the ring, he in his R, and me in the Z4 and finished .1 sec away from eachother. 8) I think we were down to a high 8 min lap. Very good fun. Still don't know the track at all. The LONG straight gave us enough time to gulp down some more RB&V.

It's no LFS, but it's pretty good IMHO. At least as a 2-player game. That damn e-cost.com finally shipped mine, hopefully I'll have it soon.... :?

(I wasn't paying that much attention, but from what little I heard, I think the soundtrack is about half as good as 3. Oh well, I'll just turn it off faster than ever before, because the engine and tire sounds are MUCH better than 3!)

Yeah, a RX-7 Turbo II w/ a race exhaust actually sounds like... shit! Wink

Jay got his copy yesterday so our academic lives are over. i have to dissagree on the music though, i think it's 10x better than 3. at least there isnt as much 80's hair metal, which was atrocious.

i am impressed with the game though. no, its not LFS but its really fun and quite realistic when you get down to it. i love the "new" handling of the cars. you can't just slam the brakes and turn, and expect the car to magically go around the turn anymore. throttle control has to be a little smoother now, and the suspension is definitely more easy to upset. i like alot of the little details too, like the wind noise from the roof cam, and how alot of the open exhaust cars shoot flames on the downshift Big Grin . and the tracks....they are all awesome.

some things i don't like about the game overall though, is that its not any easier to navigate the menus. maybe im stupid too but i can't figure out how to turn off the damn ghosts or figure out how to load a game from a memory card thats in the ps2 without restarting the game. and i mean come on, if they're going to have a freakin wing shop, at least give us some choices other than 1 style of giant sky scraper wing (its not like this is NFSunderground!)

some improvements i would like to hopefully see in future GT's is that the cars have damage. im so sick of being able to just beat the shit out of the car with zero penalty, it takes so much away from the experience. i'd also like to see more attention to detail in the modifications, i.e, you can't put on a big brake kit without bigger than stock wheels, or running your engine in a certain tune necessitates engine cooling accessories. but whatever. its a fun, detailed game, and its big enough that i feel challenged to continue unlocking cars and tracks.

slightly off-topic, but I picked up Toca Race Driver 2 last night to feed my hunger while I wait for my online GT4 order to get here.

The game is absolutely fantastic. Extremely realistic damage modelling, some great physics and realism (especially on Pro-sim) and a light "story" mode of you being a young racer trying to prove himself and break into a factory team.
The tracks are great, they are all real. Nurburgring is in the game too, along with some other cool tracks like Road America, Texas World Speedway, and just about every European track that we see on the european touring car series like Donninton and Brands Hatch.
There is a lot of variety in the racing too, everything from Formula Fords to Prototypes to Supertrucks, ice racing and rally. The rally model is splendid, best rally game Ive played, even better than WRC.
oh, and it has online racing and works with my PC logitech wheel.

Its only $30, and well worth picking it up if you can tear yourself away from GT4. I think you will find it compares quite favorably, well if you can get over the fact that you cant race a 1985 volvo station wagon in it......
