Im going to go to a meeting tomorrow night (thursday) about the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). We're looking to start a chapter here at JMU, and I knew there would be a good deal of interest from our motorsports club. Knowing CJ, who is the sponsor of the club, I'm sure she plans on taking the club in a direction more towards alternative fuel technology. But, I'd like to find a way to have some collaboration between the clubs.
Anyway, the meeting will be at dave's downtown at 5, I'll probably get there late cause I may be at dynamic aviation in bridgewater till 5. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Yea I know most of the guys, right now they're building a biodiesel motorcycle. It's a way to kill yourself on a motorcycle and smell like french fries while doing it.

attempt to compete in formula SAE with alternative fuel? that would be nice to try to get competative... hell i might even drive back to school from time to time to help with that kind of adventure!
I'm only 4 months out of the custom metal fabrication game ;-) i cant be that rusty.

OK, so after the meeting (read: drinking session), I think that the formula SAE challenge is actually doable. I now have access to a motorcycle 750cc yamaha motorcycle engine (thats all i know about it) that they pulled out of the motorcycle they are changing to biodiesel.
And the way I figure it, that engine in a go cart frame would make one hell of fast go kart. So all we need is a go kart frame ghetto rigged to that engine and we'd have a machine that would murder some pussy.
(P.S. I think its possible to get funding through SAE)

You need a 600cc engine...

If its a 750 Yamaha engine its probably not one of the more powerful ones since they haven't had a 750 supersport in some years now. However, we could go get a Gixxer 750 engine and destroke it. Oh, and turbocharge it

Remember guys, if you're serious about doing this then the benefits will not be building some uber-fast super trick suspension and engine... it will be getting the thing built and running 6 months before the competition and testing, tuning, modifying, testing, tuning, modifying ad nauseum.

well when the cars arent sitting infront of the shop then you cant fit them... and when we guess at numbers and sizes they might not fit... and when my welder is ALL fucked up it looks like shit... water tight, but like shit... i still have them by the way :-P .... i'm sure i could make the "miata" version work on my car though... I havent touched a welder in months and i can still weld circles are anyone else in the club.
