The idea of a MM house has been brought up several times and I wanted to see what you all thought about it. This would be a chance for about 4-6 MMers to live in a house in town together and ideally would have a garage or pad to work on cars at (well probably a must). Each person would be responsible for their rent like any other apartment and would need to respect the others living situations.
Pros I can think of
-brings MM closer, and allows everyone a space to wrench at
-great place for bbq's, parties, socials
-Officer meeting and possible regular meeting location
-place for alumni to crash on weekends
-roommates could share tools/knowledge
-others?
Cons at the moment
-could result in diasgreements and conflicts in MM
-wrenching area (garage) could be abused/left a mess for roommates to clean
-its late to be looking for a place to live for next year
-might be another hassle for officers to organize
-might not be enough interest ever or during one year/semester and a non MM person would live there (not bad, just not the whole reason for the house)
-others?

This might be a thing that would have to fall under long term planning but I don't see many reasons this couldn't happen. Main pitfalls:
*Would the club pay part of the rent/acquisition cost or something? If not then would it just be a case of a few MM guys getting together to get a house together?
*If it was the official MM house would there have to be more ground rules on conduct for house occupants?
*What would the club's responsibilities/committments be here?
This could be a really cool and large step for the club if enough people were interested. Still, there are a lot of more pressing issues/projects we should address first (car show, $2006 challenge, pit crew, advertising, etc.).
I think it would bring the club closer together, although its not somthing that I see happening in the near future.

IMO..
when good friends live together you tend to find things about the person you despise/dont like..
I guess it depends how good of friends you guys really are
i guess i can say i've sort of had experience in this area. a couple semesters ago RJ, JayRay(JR?), Ryan Wilson and me lived in the apt. im currently living in (w/Jay) for a spring semester. overall i'd say it worked out pretty well, no complaints really. the one big thing to think about is space allotment. when i think about that situation what immediately comes to mind is RJ's R-comps stacked in the foyer, RJ's integra B-series engine head on the dining room table soaking in simple green, RJ's integra interior chillin on one side of the living room, and RJ's misc. track stuff on the porch (lawn chairs etc.). NOW, I'M NOT COMPLAINING. the engine head on the table was badass actually. but what i am saying is that car parts take up every space there is in a little place. it may not be that members of the house will fight over space, but rather they can't physically fit parts they need in the space that is there. 4 car guys in one house essentially becomes a warehouse of busted car stuff.
ultimately, i like the idea alot. my main concern is finding an enclosed work space. that is probably the most crucial thing to have besides parts/tools, and it's one aspect of a house that would be immensely beneficial to MM if we could allot time in which other members could utilize the space....how many times have we heard (especially recently) "its too damn cold out to work on a car"
good idea, lots of potential. Are the 4-6 guys that will be here next year that would like to live together? Garages are at a premium around here.
When I was on the rugby team, there was an official house. It was where we threw all the parties, all the occupants were on the team, it was a lot of fun. Not sure if there was any drama as a result, but it would be worth a shot. Worst thing I could see that all the people that lived there would probably be severely in debt and suffering from extreme cases of b00st rot because they would be feeding off of each other.

moral of the story: dont live with RJ

Haha, I know the situation - my storage shed has random junk all over the place, my tools are sitting by the front door and my trunk and back seat of the SHO are full of rags / antifreeze / engine supports, etc. Space could turn out to be an issue, but I don't see it as a major concern.
Edit - It all boils down to courtesy and following through on projects - it would have to be understood that one roommates car and car parts couldn't take up the garage for months at a time, and that it's not cool to leave 12 tires chilling in the stairwell cause thereÔÇÖs nowhere else to put them.

haha thats good stuff.
I wish my current roommates understood my need for car stuff everywhere, luckily I have a basement now... can you imagine a trailer in the living room- that wouldn't go over well!

Just go look at your favorite frat house for 100's of reason why NOT to do this. Just rent a garage in the area by the year, charge a fee to use it and be done with it .

Since we don't have that problem in the club it might be viable. There are some hooligans in the club but both of them have already graduated and moved to Georgia...
But still, renting garage space might be an even better alternative if its cost effective.
We've kicked the idea around before, and hey, if there's 4 of you that are interested, that's all it takes. And I think with the size of the club, keeping the house pure MM would be pretty easy. So what IS the premium for a garage? It seems like if there's a run down house that has a garage in town, and someone's renting it out for a reasonable price, I don't know what the hesitation would be once it was actually there waiting for you.
I don't think the MM involvement would have to be very official, the officers would probably meet there and it'd be a good place for storing club equipment. In return, the MMer's there get access to said equipment all the time, they get mad respect from the club, and have access to lots of potential roomates if someone leaves/graduates. I wonder if the alums would be interested in starting a lift fund? We all know how much it sucks to try working on your car when in school. I think there'd be enough mutual support that it could be nothing but a success. 8)
Who knows, maybe years down the road, an alum will buy the place, members would pay rent to him and the relationship would be set in stone! Then all remaining property could be paved, covered and filled with wonderful crap.
While I like the idea of an MM house, I think it would be much more effective and efficient to just rent a garage.

I think it's very simple, find 4 guys, and start looking. I'd have done it if I weren't a senior.

Solution: move into a bigger place
