get a plain white one from OG and contract with Scotty to get it painted. I might also recommend that you can find used helmets pretty cheap. I bought my blue motorcycle helmet from a friend that had a spare for $50 and it has been great and all that is necessary at this time for what I'm doing.
Once I grow tired of my motorcycle helmet or get an actual motorcycle, that is what I'll be doing

I got a Vega (DOT approved and Snell 2000 rating) motorcycle helmet over break, for the price and what i'm gonna be using it for i couldn't pass it up. Down the road when i get a car to track i'll prolly invest in a good Bell. Thanks for the input guys...

fit is everything. as long as you get a name-brand with a sufficient rating you don't really need to look at anything other than the fit.

I wouldnt buy a used helmet. Helmets are a one time use sort of thing. When buying used you have no idea how the old helmet was cared for. It could have been dropped, or worse, involved in an accident. There doesnt have to be any external visible damage. The only way to know its ok is sending it in to be xrayed. A helmet is to important of a safety device to be cheap on. If you can't afford to be safe, you can't afford to race.

Yeah, if it has the right safety ratings (Snell), then fit is the next big thing. Most people buy a helmet that is to big. Other important factors, not as much for safety but for comfort, are weight, ventilation, noise (motorcycle), and nice features like antifog lenses.

the one i bought fits me well (the guy made me try on a few, and checked them before letting me buy one, he was really helpful), i went to G-Force a few days after buying it and it worked out very well, ventilation was good, weight is good, vision was good, i am pleased with it so far
