It has gone up 300k in the last 30 minutes. Unreal. Wtf.
Sad part is we will have to pay taxes to maintain it if it is ever built....

These people confuse me.
Because people can't think for themselves and are brainwashed. They'll do whatever a, b, c, d because "the damn libs are ruining this country and letting these aliens in for free through Mexico!"

lol, people are actually throwing their money toward that gofundme. amazing, just amazing. i wonder where that money will actually go.
solid logic though
"mexico will pay for the wall" - ELECT HIM! FREE WALL! GO TRUMP
"american tax payers will pay for the wall with taxes paid" - WHATEVER, NO RAGERTS! GO TRUMP!
"americans will pay for the wall with after-tax money" - CONGRESS SUCKS, WE GOT YOUR BACK! GO TRUMP!
Mattis just resigned.
this is the opposite of good. he was a legit Adult In the Room and had actual tact and a lifetime of indispensible knowledge. he laid down some pretty professional level "eat shit, you're hopeless" lines in the letter that tell the reality of what's going on.
Trump tweets that he's "retiring", likely because he's functionally retarded and tweets subconsciously while absorbing Fox news into his pores in the tanning booth. even worse, i'm not sure i want to know who slots into Mattis's position now.

I was actually coming here to say basically this, but not as eloquently, so glad someone else got here first. This is bad news. Mattis was absolutely the only one trying to keep the orange man from running is straight into war. A lot of people think that pulling out of Syria was the last straw. That Mattis finally got tired of us pissing off the Allies we need or at least could use. But any way you cut it, this is terrible horrible news, and I'm currently very sorry for the US Military.

From the Post’s article this AM:
As for the Kremlin’s official response, spokesman Dmitry Peskov, asked about Mattis as a restraining influence on Trump, had this dry rejoinder: “In our times, guessing who restrained President Trump from doing what is the work of political scientists and a rather thankless task."

also, just something of thought. i can't stand the use of a shutdown to get things done. i can't remember a single instance where federal employees don't get paid for a shutdown. they essentially just get a paid vacation during this time as they're retroactively paid for the 'furloughed' time. Contractors don't get paid if they don't work, i get that, but i think to make things hurt a little more i don't think retroactive pay should occur.

There are a lot of dumb people in this country. The same people complaining about paying taxes and chanting "Make Mexico Pay". I read an interesting point of view today that the guy behind the gofundme has done things like this before and by the 2020 elections he may have quite a bit of money raised that could be donated to GOP campaigns...

Hopefully by 2020 enough people will continue to be enraged by most of what the GOP is and has been doing, and it just won't be an issue regardless.

First born of a foreign national here... walls and immigration are super complex and neither side has a real solution to the real problem. I'm not wasting my time to go into the subject... you'll have to talk with me face to face over several beers to get it all. hell, i'll need diagrams and stuff to explain it all...
everything I read from any source, its obvious they have never been in the "system" and don't know crap about it. Anything you read is the half truth and short sighted at best.
both sides can die in a fire as far as I am concerned.

Kaan, tl;dr they're a bunch of scared lazy racist assholes that eat up the propaganda hook line and sinker.
also confusing to me is that many 1st & 2nd generation immigrants want tougher immigration laws/procedures, which sort of baffles me, but it fits nicely into the "fuck you, I got mine" GOP core philosophy.

See I think the 1st and 2nd generation don't want tougher immigration laws, they want the current laws enforced the way they used to be. Get here on the right visa, do what you need to do, and you are here... that still happens today.
Today, illegal immigration doesnt cross the southern border in mass by crossing the river. Today the issue is overstaying a visa. They literally come here legally and just over stay. 30 years ago they were scared to death to overstay a visa (this is the hang up the 1st and 2nd generation people I know have). There is no fear today, the attitude is "catch me if you can." Is this okay? that's up for debate.
Would you overstay your visa in another country? probably not, because you would get caught on your way home and depending on the country, the punishment isn't fun. Getting caught on an overstay in the US is a free trip home and a couple days in a facility (much different from border jumpers).
our current immigration system is not something you want to mess with. it is corrupt on every single level and the machine was built by both sides of the isle. Politics of judges, privatization of the detention facilities (and the infrastructure they use), "charities" that get government money/your money to "help"... its a serious hot mess.
simply put (and people wonder why its taken me so long to get on track and chase my dreams)... my biological father was in the system for 7 years (with no resolution) and I stopped counting the money I spent when I reach $80k.
TGIF, its slow at work today...

Being that I work closely with CBP at times... everyone "against" a wall need to look into the history of our border protections.
I think we need "something"... but IMHO reason is maybe 25% immigration, 25% drugs, and 50% long term "help" to the under funded and under manned agents down there... looking for human trafficking, drugs, etc. Spend the money now and you can sustain the lower border patrol numbers for longer.
This was explained to me by a 2nd generation agent (dad was a Mexican American and CBP agent... so 2nd generation in two areas). 50 years ago the Rio Grande was the wall. It flowed faster and was wider, in more areas, for most of the year... so we (the US) didn't really need a wall. He blamed it on climate change and I added population growth... but its not the formidable river it once was. Sure people still risk their lives crossing it, but its much less risky.
He also had opinions on the northern border and the crazy issue that will become in the future. He thinks the more marijuana is legalized the more they will push for something along the northern border. its half a tax game and half a business game. "sticks and stems come from Mexico... the grey market real weed comes from Canada."
that "grey market" stuff will limit tax revenue and business profits in the states its legal. Que Rex and the taxation memes... BUT you sure as hell know the government wants their taxes... they already tax your booze, your cigarettes, your E-cigs, etc... they want their pot taxes.
The "wall"/immigration topic is extremely complex and related to several other issues... and they sure as hell aren't talked about.

I think this whole conversation sums up why its hard to be a Moderate or a Moderate Conservative these days. While I'm pretty right leaning on a lot of things, the shit show that is the GOP and conservativism today is embarrassing first and terrifying second and mostly. I'm over it all.
