For what it’s worth, my buddy who used to sell appliances for Lowe’s told me to steer clear of LG and Samsung - he said that their return rates were horrendous. My mother in law has had nothing but issues with their Samsung washer/dryer set.
I’ve had pretty good luck with Maytag / Whirlpool / Kenmore / Fridgidaire / GE over the years.
Kenmore Dishwasher - ~10 years old, 1 thermal fuse replacement.
Whirlpool Refrigerator - 8 years, 0 issues.
Fridgidaire Washing Machine - has to be 15+ years old, 1 belt replacement due to overloading it.
GE Dryer - 10 years old, control knob is a bit sticky but still works fine.
Kenmore Hot Water Heater - 20 years old, replaced preventively with a more efficient unit.
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

Our Frigidaire fridge growing up was a piece of junk. When we finally replaced it, the appliance guy or delivery guy said that he's never heard good things from the customers with them. Maybe they're better now.
My dad just got all new ge stuff and functionally it's been fine for about a year or two but the plastic door of the microwave is already cracking all around the edge. The microwave also had an electrical gremlin once where it couldn't figure out what position the door was in but the old it trick of unplug and plug it back in seemed to fix it.
The LG front load washer and dryer have worked alright for the last 12 years. I've had to replace the water inlet valve in the last 6 months but other than that, they have been fine. Also pretty sure the model we have is actually the same as the Whirlpool or a couple other brands. Think it was all a partnership because our washer looks very similar to others and when shopping for the valve, I seem to recall seeing overlap in Whirlpool or ge or both.
Basically sounds like a crap shoot. Do any brands really beat out others or are all sacrificing build quality for cost and "features".

And just to counter that but our one year old Whirlpool refrigerator broke (just out of warranty) and they wanted $170 an hour to diagnose + cost of part and told me they couldnt get me an estimate of how long.
Ordered 2 parts and replaced one at a time, and replaced the other. Total cost $80. Still frustrating on a one year old refrigerator.
Our GE washer that was brand new also shook pretty hard constantly and sometimes smelled awful. We were not impressed.
With our new house we bought Samsung, but went htrough Costco who doubles the warranty and takes care of dealing with the manufacturer (you just deal with the Costco representative). My wife LOVES the "steam" function for helping with wrinkles on clothes. We thought it would be a gimmick but it works extremely well.
Appliances are such a frigging crapshoot IMO.

the tech that replaced the control panel on the dishwasher said the 2 brands that he sees the least of in repair calls are Amana and Bosch.
my parents have Bosch stuff and love it, which replaced their previous Samsung washer/dryer combo that had the recall for the top loading units because they'd vibrate themselves apart.
growing up as a kind we had Amana stuff but that was the only time i've really noticed them in someone's home, they seem like a small player in the market....which might explain why few people ever call them in for repairs.

But are they the least repaired because they're the least popular. Our apartment just replaced our Whirlpool or one of the big brand manual control washer and dryer with the same style but even less features and settings if that was even possible Amana units and it kind of sucks. The dryer door has to be closed with the force of Thor's [emoji375]. And you can dry clothes "automatically" with high temp or "automatically" with low temp but manual timed dry has to be high. What if I want my stuff actually dry but don't want it shrunk to child size?
(Edit: the switch was because they changed companies that they lease the washer and dryers from, it's an optional monthly fee but what was most annoying is they tried to tell us we were getting upgrades to our current stuff which it definitely was not an upgrade in any way except maybe for their wallets)

Just went with the Maytags for washer / dryer, they seem to be one of the better brands. We also have the steam function and wifey loves it. Our appliances are all Frigidaire Gallery and they have been fine through about 2 years so far. We'll see how they hold up

I have samsung kitchen appliances now. no complaints.
My LG washer/dryer have been mostly OK but the drain pump on the washer shit the bed 18 months ago, and again a few weeks back. Its a $25 part and an hour of my time so more of an annoyance.... but I'm sure most people would throw them away the first time something doesnt work right.

I ended up going with a 4-piece kitchen package from Samsung because of a Columbus Day deal. The contractor screwed up the microwave install and we replaced it with a whirlpool microwave and low the appearance more; functions great, too. We went top tier Samsung dishwasher and I'm so glad we did as it's really quiet. Mid-tier fridge and range/oven. All working well so far (7 months), but it's too early...
^Make sure you clean out the filter in the dishwasher. My parents went really high end Samsung for quiet factor but the sales guy didn't mention it's quiet because it lacks a garbage disposal. My mom was less than pleased when she learned she would be cleaning that once a month.

New house has mid-range Samsung appliances in the kitchen and Maytag washer/dryer, all about 15 months old. All seem to work well. The Samsung dishwasher and refrigerator are way quieter than the entry level GE we had in the old house. Washer and dryer are pretty nice, but the ones we had at the old house were 15 years old, so hard to compare. GE and Samsung microwave seem to be pretty much the same. Hard to compare ranges as the old was electric and the new is gas.

It's how they can market it as ultra quiet. My parents kitchen is right off the family room so if the old dishwasher was running you had to crank the TV volume up to hear it. Now the TV can be at a normal volume and you can have a conversation. 1st world problem I know.

Thanks for the tip. The filter was barely dirty, but I obviously didn't read the manual. Perhaps I'll do more of that...
Removing the filter and cleaning took appx 2 minutes. It's so worth it considering how quiet it is.
Btw, do others not hook up the drain to the garbage disposal under the sink or are people talking about a mini garbage disposal in the dishwasher itself?

Most dishwashers have a built in miniature disposal but some use a filter system and rely on hot water to break down food.
My dishwasher drains through the disposal.

I am not sure if this is true but I have heard that appliances are a lot like mowers. The ones you get at an independent dealer are a lot higher quality than the ones you buy at a big box, and the dealers usually have their own warranty and deal with the factory. Of course I think it makes you pay more up front but maybe worth it

Every high end fancy pants ultra efficient EPA Free-Willy certified appliance I have had has been garbage. I did the math on my washer and its saving me something like $5 a year. GFY, give me the old style appliances that actually work.

yeah, i remember when we bought our washer/dryer. we know we don't use any fancy features and bought 1 up from the bottom of the line and i think they're Samsung (i honestly don't remember). they're like something i would use in a rental unit; as long as it washes and drys our clothes i don't really care. They've been without issue for 6 years now and i think we paid less than $500 for each.
