How to get an engine block from overseas?
#1
There is an engine block in the UK that I'm very interested in... What is the process to get it to the US? Dave, did you get a TT Supra engine from Japan? Anyone else have experience on this?

I figure the guy would crate it up for me. It is just the bare 4cyl block, no pistons, nothing else. I'm guessing the block would be in the 200lb range (iron block).

Do I just call up UPS? Or is there a better way?

Thanks guys!

Man, this is a question I would have expected Rex to ask....

If it were me I'd probably just ring up UPS.
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

For JUST a block, I would expect UPS freight would be your best option. If it's crated up, it should be fine. Expect to pay some taxes on it when it comes to the country, and expect to pay out the nose for overseas shipping. Honestly, I'd go talk to UPS and FedEx, and maybe DHL (I think they operate worldwide) and see what your options are. But really, no special procedure for shipping something as small as an engine block. It's no worse than a large television or a computer or two.

But expect to pay for it. It won't be cheap to ship it.

I think most guys that get their jdm motors do it through a distributor who has already shipped to the US. But to actually ship it to the US would be pretty expensive I would think. I UPS'ed a book to a friend teaching in Japan, and the shipping cost 30 bucks. granted japan is a further away.

*cough cough UPS SUCKS cough cough*

Don't do it! Seriously, though... I would check out the other shipping companies before I settled with UPS.

your best bet would be on a container ship, but i don't know how you go about doing that.
