i can't do an S. if i'm going for new i gotta get the one that tickles my nips and the Sport or SE are just awesome. LSD, extra boost, bigger brakes....if i settle for an S i'll always be pissed i didn't pony up.

that said, that is a super ridiculous price for one and i'm gonna keep my eye on that dealer just to see if they want to play ball with an Sport model too.

so i talked to the other dealer in Stone Mountain and had them match the $1000 lower price from the dealer in Charlotte. Stone Mt. won't do the 0% deal with the discounted price either....so this is clearly a "get them in the showroom" tactic that all the dealers are doing now that its the end of the '17 MY.

BUT, i did get Stone Mt. to drop the discount price even further, after i pointed out that they have 3 identical manual GTI's sitting in their lot with 10 days left in the month before the trucks arrive with the '18's. they don't move hardly any manuals due to being right outside Atlanta where everyone wants DSG's for the traffic, so i think that let them know i understand what's going on with their time limitations. hopefully they don't know mine :lol:

if i can get them to agree to terms of like 2% or less (my credit rating game is solid), i'm gonna try to leverage doing all the financing through them to get them to $22.5 on a Sport. then (if there's no penalty) i'll pay like half of it off the day after i take delivery and that should put me at a wee little payment for a while which i can deal with.

i didn't take it seriously either, just thought he was an insane negotiator. all the dealers are dumping them right now. i think the sale ends on the 31st....

that's super kind. i might take you up on it - went ahead and reached out to King VW in Gaithersburg because they have a red one for 22,6. if they don't creep the cost up too much with TTL/dealer junk i might be road tripping this thing home.

i'll see what they want to give it away for Tongue

wow, thanks guys. i guess i'll need to do an MM/DC tour with it if it works out.

i'm in the process of haggling 4 different dealers simultaneously right now :lol: Stone Mt, South Charlotte, King, and Lindsey.

same deal with all of them - super unclear Autotrader ad, then you call in to find out you can either get 0% at MSRP OR the discount special internet price at standard financing rates, but not both. i'm playing the "i was so excited to make a deal but your ad was unclear and i guess we can't make this work" card, and some are biting. i think the fact that i want a 6 speed is actually helping me a little as i don't think they move those nearly as fast as the DSGs.

i don't know....i have no intention of spending over 23k OTD and i know i'm asking a lot for them to come down further on a car that's already like $7k cheaper than MSRP. its a week until month end though, and quotas are quotas, so who knows....

Lindsay VW has the cars and its no haggle on the prices. You do have to pay freight and some other fee on top of it, but should be easy purchase.

Look at Sheehy VW also.

yeah its getting to be tough. Charlotte is out, Stone Mt. won't get back to me.

i don't mind paying a bit (although I'm playing it like I can't) over the no-haggle for some small fees but what's pissing me off is some of these dealers tacking $1500+ dollar dealer installed packages on, then acting like "there's nothing we can do, that's how they come".....Charlotte's doing that with tint, "interior and exterior paint protection", and some other crap i don't want.

the entire reason i got into chasing these was thinking it was 0% on the already discounted price. without those two items together i'm getting into a payment i really don't want.

Lindsey called me after I was frank about my OTD price through email, we'll see what I can get from them on this.

Don't get caught up w/ 0% financing if you can work the price down. Work on price alone. A 2% loan over 60 months will cost you $1292 in interest over 5 years. If you can work a 23k dollar price down to 21 and then finance through an outside lender, you are still doing fine.

oh i'm not, its just really tough right now because their prices are already so low, and they know it. my credit rating is great so i'm not worried about outside financing if i have to get it, i just would like to see if financing through the dealer will help me leverage their price down easier since they obviously get kickbacks for keeping it in-house with their bank.
