VW is also doing 0.9% financing for 72 months. You're not getting any younger, get yourself into a proper nice car. I promise they dont bite.

there's a dealer in Charlotte dumping 2017 PP's for $23k, $6000 below MSRP. is this real life?
one thing i didn't even think about, because i thought new cars were completely unrealistic - its the end of August. new MY cars start getting delivered in September. its also a week away from the end of the month. by pure dumb luck i may be in position to haggle like a m'fer

Yep. I test drove Alltracks at Linsday VW a few weeks back. I got the sense that the purchase is pretty easy.

just bombed a dealer in Charlotte and Stone Mt. for more info on their GTI Sports w/6 speed. 23 and 24k respectively. with my down payment i could swing a monthly payment that is literally almost nothing with this 0% craziness.
not sure how successful i can haggle a dealer outside my state, i may not bother, but we'll see

Ask for offers in writing on letterhead and email them to other dealers. I did that on my car and ending up getting $1,300 off from the Seattle dealer's final price, after they originally said they wouldn't match an out of town offer. I would think it could work the other way around too. I don't think it matters where they're located, as long as you sound serious about moving quickly on a sale.

yeah i'll need to move quick, offer expires on the 31st. i just assumed buying out of state would incur a "market adjustment" as dealers sometimes do.
i'll be doing the email game. don't nobody got time to bother with phone nonsense.

They don't have to know where you live before they agree to a sale price.
The Seattle dealer tried to play that game with me because my competing offer was in a lower cost of living city 90 minutes away. I called their bluff.

this is my first new car purchase, never done this before. as if researching cars all week wasn't enough, now i'm researching all the negotiation tricks that go with a new car. i'm gonna need a smoke after all this is over.
i'm still going to check out the mint 2011 Si tomorrow, but i'm really feeling the call to these GTI's. i don't think there's going to be a firesale like this again any time soon on a car that checks the boxes so well in every way, and my timing is ideal. may have to pull the trigger.

I got one of those "upgrade offers" in the mail from my dealership for like $3k "over market value" on my trade to put me in a new GTI. The crazy thing is I actually thought about it for a second. I mean, mine needs tires, and a new color could be fun, and the DCC option would be so choice for shitty NOVA roads....

I agree on price before I even show up to the lot. The nice thing about a new car is you don't really have to make an offer based on condition - you know exactly what you're getting with the options listed. I like to make it clear that I don't have time or interest in playing games, am ready to purchase in a matter of days, have great credit, and they would benefit from sending their best offer. You rarely get the best, best offer on the first try, but they change their answer when you thank them for their time and let them know you'll be buying from another dealer (and attach the offer).

Coming from a sales person, there are no tricks to negotiating. It's just the art of the conversation. Know what you want to pay and what you are willing to pay and just go at it. You aren't going to dupe the salesman into a crazy deal with some #lifehack you read on the internet. Pick your number and stick with it. Don't nickel and dime over little things like the document fee, floormats, etc - just look at the overall payment. Just my 2 cents.

I don't really agree with that approach because dealers will sneak shit in and try to distract you with "It's only $5/month!" I even had a dealer try to hose me over with a ballon payment to get the monthly payment to my target. It doesn't make sense to pay for things you don't have to, like my backup dealer trying to charge more than VW parts website for mud flaps. How about you charge me what VW charges... or better yet, just throw them into the deal fuckers?
Oh, and put as much of the downpayment on your credit card as possible. Free rewards!

oh for sure, looking forward to those sweet, delicious points
right now Charlotte just pulled a dick move. "oh, the deal is special ($23k compared to $29k) pricing OR 0% financing, sorry we can't do both at the same time". you sneaky bastards.
i don't have a comparable 2nd dealer offer to come back at them with for leverage, so we'll see if I can word things a bit to entice them into agreeing to giving me both.
