I don't know a single person that bought a classic or that was upset they couldn't get one. I don't even think I saw a single post about it from any of my friends on facebook.I don't think the demand is what you think it is.

I mean, Nintendo executives themselves admitted that they misunderstood the market. I don't think there was as much profitability planning or artificial demand production as you guys think :lol:

Discussing the NES Classic shortages (the system remains sold out basically everywhere following its November 2016 launch), Fils-Aime said it was simple matter of demand outpacing supply. But why?

"When we looked at that proposition what we believed was the adults, 30-40 years old, who grew up playing NES as a kid, 10 years old or so but had stepped away from the gaming category--that was going to be the buyer [of the NES Classic]," Fils-Aime said.

"As we thought about that, that led us to a certain level of supply."

The reality, however, was that the lapsed gamer and the "more active gamer" bought the NES Classic, leading to a demand that Nintendo didn't fully anticipate and in turn the supply issues.

"That was the maketplace disconnect that happened," Fils-Aime said.

That assumes their goal is to maximize profit. Knowing a few people who have worked at Nintendo, I get the impression that is absolutely not the case. They seem content creating niche products... kinda like private car companies that have small run production.

That's all well and good, but that is not usually what shareholders want to hear...and Nintendo is publicly traded. Even if they weren't focused on profits they should be focused on growth, and not meeting demand with your products doesn't help you significantly grow.

I think it's more of a situation of old-mindset execs that have been holding the organization back. The demand for their products is clearly there, if it wasn't then the company would really be in trouble. They just need to follow through on delivering enough supply of stuff that people want to buy and moving forward focus on actually getting developers to produce desirable titles for their newer systems.

The other thing about dicking around with supply is that installed base matters to 3rd party developers. The faster Nintendo builds an install base on the Switch, the easier it will be to convince 3rd party developers to make titles for the Switch.

But again, maybe Nintendo decided that they well and truly don't care about 3rd party titles and are just gonna do their own thing.

They have still maintained a bump in valuation from that probably just due to Pokemon Go making the Nintendo name somewhat relevant in the press again, but that seems like more sheer dumb luck to me than corporate strateg-ery.

What I am saying is they have the building blocks in place to be really special and a contender to Sony and MS's throne. If they don't want to be a contender that is all well and good if you are a privately held company but you lose some of that decision to guide your corporate philosophy when other shareholder owners get involved

I don't think they're in the same market. Nintendo is selling experiences that are made possible through video games. The other two are hardcore video game companies.

I play generally racing (Forza, Gran Turismo) and fps games (Call of Duty, Destiny, Battlefield) but sometimes get into different sporting games like the old Tiger Woods PGA Tour games and any MLB The Show games on my old ps3. Looking to get a ps4 sometime this summer so I can play the new exclusives.

Yeah I just watched the reveal event live stream. It looks awesomeeeee

Lot's of great changes, better options for players who usually fly solo and for groups / clans, more open world like (think Skyrim). Really looking forward to the beta!

So I just picked up Dirt 4, and if anyone else is thinking about getting it and has played Dirt: Rally for a while, don't.
It's a great game on its own, but its soooo much easier than dirt rally that even on the highest difficulties with zero assists I win by 10+ seconds in a 4 stage rally, while in dirt rally its a fight to win on the 2nd to hardest difficulty. It's really dissapointing since the career mode is really fleshed out compared to dirt rally and the addition of buggies and stadium truck racing, along with the return of rallycross is awesome, but by the first turn I'm 3 carlengths ahead of 2nd place in those races which isn't fun at all. The rally academy is cool for a bit, but its a toned down and smaller version of the gymkhana free roam mode from dirt 3 and isn't quite as fun.
If it weren't for how amazing dirt rally was, I'd love this game but after 2 hours of gametime its already kinda boring to me and I'm gonna try to get a steam refund for it. Hopefully they'll do like Forza and release a Dirt: Rally 2 in a couple years.

You don't need to have an account to actually view the live videos when I do start streaming. If I stream Destiny for at least 50 hours (that's a lot) I get a special in game emblem I think. I also went ahead and uploaded some videos I had on Youtube there so there's at least something to see when I am not streaming

I never got it either but it is fun when you watch your friends. I don't really watch anyone else play that I don't know unless it's a demo of an upcoming game (like Destiny 2...which by the way the pre-download for beta is about to happen today!!).

Like Chris said it is a lot like watching sports for people who are really into certain games. The delta between really top tier players and the rest of the masses has really started to decrease since the advent of streaming and Youtubing. A lot of people watch the "pros" to learn their tips and strategies and then basically just replicate it, so the average player now you run into is a lot better than they used to be

I totally get people watching competitive games where it's cool to see how top tier players roll. I also kinda get people watching streams of high skill level single player games like Dark Souls or people doing ridiculous things in Destiny like doing raids solo (when normally it takes 6 people).

I don't get people watching 'Let's Play' of people just playing through a single player game at a normal skill level. At that point, just play the game yourself.

Why do people spectate amateur motorsports? Some people don't have the desire or the means to participate.

I kind of agree, although a lot of those people would probably say that they enjoy the narrative and walkthrough of some games before they buy it. The one thing I will give some of the popular streamers is that they have um, personality, and some people just watch for the entertainment value of the dumb stuff they say :lol:
