MM Elections, 2005-2006 school year
#1
As elections approach, I wanted to be sure those not present at the final meeting (Dec. 1st) and alumni have a chance to vote. If you plan to run for a position: post your name, year in school, and position running for.

Type up your reasons for running, plans for improvement in your position, why you think you should become an officer, and what you have done with the club so far. We are looking for committed individuals, don't be afraid to run for an office!!

Anyone wishing to vote, please EMAIL or IM me your choices! don't post them on here (obviously). procopcp@jmu.edu or JMUsol82.

Now lets hear those officer candidates Big Grin

I'll be running for President.

My name is Ryan Thayer and I'm a sophmore.

My reasons for running...to the best of my knowledge after all the officers graduate I will be the most senior MM member still at JMU. But that is not my only reason for running, I have plans for the club. I want all members to have large aluminum wings and rims far too large for their cars. I have a vision that everyone will have a fartcannon and huge yellow MM decals to go down the sides of their cars. We will trade in our turbochargers and high performance brake pads for air-bag systems and neon lights.

Ok, in all seriousness, I would love to be the President of this club. Our numbers have grown a lot this year and I'd like to continue that trend if possible. We'll continue track events and autocrosses and race shop tours. The only things I'll really do differently than I have noticed in the past is more advertisement for the car show and try to get a few more non-activity related get togethers. This doesn't necessarilly mean parties, but just times when MM members can get together and bench race/hang out. Wrench days are perfect for this. Social events like this do a lot for MM. They give newer members who may not want to dive right into a track weekend or auto-x to meet up with the current members and get to know each other. It also provides good comraderie amongst all the members. I'd like to see MM as a car community rather than just a club.

I would like to run for office .... i would like to be the NOVA OG dumbass. I really feel i can fill this possition to its fullest. I'm at the track events all the time... doing things like hitting bears, hydro locking motors, holding up RT for a keg stand on the second floor hotel balcony, chasing down Kershaw girls with Mike C., and various other debockles! I will stand up for OG rights until i am blue in the face... even months after an OG issue! vote for me! and vote for my fart can muffler!

and remember i will not wash my car for the car show... two years running! i still havent washed it!

I'm running for Treasurer. I'm a freshman Finance major.

I'm an avid motorsport enthusiast and I hope that by being an officer I can use my passion to move the group forward. I will be able to use my local connections to secure hookups for MMer's, integrate local financial sponsorship, and help secure funds.

IÔÇÖve been to almost every event possible, while also spending track time with VBD. IÔÇÖm self-employed, so my schedule is a non-factor. I plan to continue attending all events.

I may not be good at GT3, but IÔÇÖm a focused leader looking to take Madison Motorsports to the next level.

Sincerely,
Aaron R. Graham :!:

I would like to run for secretary. I am a racing and motoring enthusiast for most of my life, and I believe I can help continue the MM greatness. I am able to keep track of things fairly well, and believe my skills can be utilized.

car wise, the things I can bring to the table are drift priciples, drift techniques, (don't ask me to demonstrate), things not to do in a car, things you can do, that you never really thought possible, and things that you know are possible, that you'd never attempt. (rofl to the last few) this is about all i know, i haven't done as much under the hood work as some of these other guys.

but besides that, I hope to be able to learn more and to be able to help out in any way I can. I know I haven't been able to get to most events outside of meetings and events near campus, and not having a mode of transportation (stupid fence) hasn't helped.

I'm not very good at election things, but if I'm not selected, I still want to help out any way I can.

Hope my small attempt at a speech doesn't put anyone off...

Thanks - Mike F

Remember meeting attendance will not give you an advantage over someone else. Also keep in mind that people that do very little can also be elected, so put those pieces of advice in your back pocket.

I think what you mean is you haven't had to do a ton of things so far to run for an office. We want anyone to run who is interested, and willing to be dedicated to the club. Once in office though, you would be expected to do a lot more, just wanted to clarify.

Ok here we go. My name is Keith Galvin and Im running for Secretary.
If elected to this office I am confident that I will be able to fufill any tasks assigned. I have good organizational skills, and will devote as much time as I need to the club. I am heavy into motorsports, but unfortunately have no car =-/ a problem that should be fixed this summer.
Many of you probably dont know me since Ive only been to the first meeting. I have been unable to attend any following meetings because I work 5 days a week now. However, starting next semester I have scheduled my work so that I will be able to attend every MM meeting. I have taken part in a few of the MM events thus far, most notably NASA at Summit in October (which was a blast -_-), where I got to meet a few more of you, and a few of the OG's, and spin off the track three times in RJ's type Arrrr in the same damn run  . Car wise I realize i dont know much, but Im making effort after effort to increase my knowledge, and have already learned a substantial amount this year.
I wish everyone running good luck, and eitherway this turns out I cant wait to take a more active stance in MM next semester, and hopefully next year.
OH! I also fully support Ryan Thayers alluminum wing and rim policy for all. Because come on, we all know that a supra with any wing is better than a supra with no wing at all Tongue )

Continued so that Alumni and those who may not attend the next meeting know what I have to say.

If you don't know who I am, my name is still Travis Miller. I'm somwhere between a sophemore and a junior. I'm not currently taking any classes at Madison but I will return to acadamia in the fall. So I hope that word was spelled right. I have only been in the motorsports game for two years and I haven't been anywhere but the dragstrip just yet. Future plans include AutoXing and having RJ teach me how to drive at VIR or slummit.

If elected to the office of Vice Presidency I will continue reppin the club on the street, on campus, and on specific nights like Student Org Night. And more.

I would like to make our annual carshow bigger and better. I'll ensure we have judges with years of experience building cars, sweet trophies and awesome prizes and give aways. I want our show to attract more cars from all over Virginia this very coming year and next, because more cars is more exposure and that will be good for the club.

I would like Madison Motorsports to enter the grassroots motorsports $2006 Competition. I think an activity like this would be good for everyone involved. Hands on experience in planning and building a car for competition will educate everyone involved and would be lots of fun. I figure we would spend this spring semester of 05 deciding on what car to use as a platform and start the research in what it would take to make it competitive. $2006 dollars is the budget...if we had 10 dedicated people (and who in the club wouldn't be dedicated to this?) two hundred bucks a piece is all it would take...aside from hundreds of hours of wrenching which shouldn't be considered anything other than fun.

I will continue to involve the club in events like the Tour of Ferrari and Karting at G Force in Richmond but I would like to hold more BBq's and social events because I believe the key to any club is in the friendships formed.

I will continue to try and interest people in drag racing. I know the OG's were never involved in this form of motorsports and so it has been neglected, but to those who are excited about building/tuning their ride and not just driving it this is a fun way to race balls out without ever touching the brakes. And it is cheap too. If you're not down with the straightline, that is ok. I plan on hitting any AutoX within an hour and a half of Madison or Fairfax next season and I hope a lot of the club will be making these events as well.

That's about all I can say right now. Nothing I have to say is original, but I do plan on making things happen, whether or not I'm elected.
But yeah, vote for me. Cause I rock a Mitsubishi.

My name is Nick Poe and I am interested in running for Secretary for the upcoming school year. I am currently a sophmore HTM major and philosophy minor and have been involved in Madison Motorsports since first semester of my freshman year.
I feel like I will be able to perform all of the responsibilities and more required for this office if elected. I will be able to attend all meetings and plan on attending and helping set up more MM events next semester.
I have been an avid motorsports enthusiast for several years and was very excited to learn that JMU offered a club that catered to those interests. I have participated in many MM events including autocrosses, the car show, scenic drives, and get togethers including the Ferrari of Washington Tour, PTG, and more. Once I get my car back in order I plan to be much more dedicated to autocrossing than I have been and hopefully I can get on the track atleast once while I am at JMU.
As secretary, I would like to see the club expand its membership base and would like to have more social events such as wrenching days and BBQs so that everyone can get to know one another. I know that as a freshman last year events like these were very important for getting to know the older members in the club and to get involved in the club.
