me, john, jess and a friend from work checked out the opener to the charlottesville virginia film festival last week called faster (<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.fastermovie.com">http://www.fastermovie.com</a><!-- m -->)
it was a really good movie that documented the 2001 and 2002 seasons of motogp narrated by ewan mcgreggor who apparently is a huge motogp fan. it focused a lot on the rivalry of valentino rossi and max biaggi which is a hugely entertaining story in itself, but also managed to squeeze in a lot about the change from 2 stroke engines to 4 strokes, safety concerns, some n00bs, and just the series in general. i found myself gettin goosebumps and just feeling on edge during some of the scenes and now i really really really want a bike. i highly recommend anyone seeing it or renting it or whatever. maybe john or jess would wanna chime in with their impressions?

I wish I had never seen it. Seriously, that stupid movie put all sorts of terrible ideas in my head :twisted:
I especially liked the segment that followed John Hopkins from his early days to getting dropped into MotoGP with the Redbull/Yamaha team.
The short before the movie was kind of interesting, but it didn't fit very well with the "safety" theme. For those that haven't seen it - it's a 10 minute, onboard ride on a bike going at high-speed through downtown Paris. Neat, but I hope nobody is inspired by it.

Yeah, the short at the beginning was wicked. You almost expected to see the dude crash into a building or otherwise go up in flames...
They definitely made a point about how dangerous the sport is, and how crazy all the guys are who ride. So many of them are seriously injured and go out anyway to stay in the points race. They did make a big deal out of only riding on track, in controlled situations where there are trained medical people on hand if shit goes wrong, and everyone on track knows what they're doing. All the riders they interviewed kept saying the same thing- that riding on the street was really dangerous, and that anyone who wanted to get into riding should stick with the track.
Cool movie all around, even though motorcycles aren't really my thing. If it's in your area, go check it out. Just don't expect to come out unscathed... I'm thinking that moto-rot is just as contagious as b00st rot. 
I think we're all done for.
Pete bringing his bike on the scenic drive didn't help either.

they might tell you that sport bikes are for tracking only but i'm sure they all have them in the garage with legal plates and go for rides from time to time.

I can't imagine saddling up one of those rigs.
My old, inefficient, half-running, piddly 700 puts my nuts in a vice every time I get on. A modern race bike? Yeah sure. I'll ride one.

Those machines demand respect, so do the guys that ride them. MotoRot? Yeah, it settles in quickly. Unless there's ice on the road, I'll be on two wheels instead of 4.

I think that Biaggi was the only one that actually claimed to not ride on the street at all...
he might not ride on the street now... but he has in the past... you gotta hit that kinda crack pipe somewhere you know.... its more of a laced go fast crack pipe on a bike.

Well I've had Faster and the sequel Faster & Faster for a few weeks now and I've gotta say its the best racing video I own. I am so glad I bought tickets to Moto GP at Laguna Seca because I know it will be worth every penny.
Some way, somehow, I know I'm going to end up with a bike this year.
i've watched the sequel 3 or 4 times now because each time it seriously sends chills down my spine. especially all the footage from the on bike cameras... wow...

I like the commentary about the race at Saschenring where Gibernau edged Rossi on the last corner (because Rossi made a mistake).
Speaking of Rossi, "This was the first time you sort of saw the happy facade torn away to reveal a very sour, totally pissed off Rossi..."
I was kind of disappointed they didn't show much of Nicky Hayden in there. He ended up getting rookie of the year and finished 5th in points that year. I suppose since they gave Anthony Hopkins so much coverage they figured one American was enough.
I'm definitely going to buy the 2004 Moto GP Year in Review DVD because it was an awesome season this year. A tremendous battle between Rossi, Giberanu, and Biaggi, a few break out wins for Tamada, and a few spectacular crashes (the one that comes to mind is Shinya Nakano's 190 mph+ tire blowout). Stay tuned fellas.

The reason I want the WSBK 2K2 video is that it was Colin Edwards' (Honda) 2nd consecutive championship where he had to come from way behind in the points midseason to take the title, battling Troy Bayliss (Ducati) every step of the way. This is also the season where Edwards rode the infamous stars and stripes RC51.
Oh, I also liked that little clip of Rossi driving a rally car, and promptly smacking a tree with it. :lol:
