Where do you have luck selling junk? eBay is pointless.

Do you have your state CCW permit? If so it's a moot point, if not you might want to check your state law. I believe concealed carry laws apply when you are outside of your property, but I could definitely be wrong on that.

I don't know about Oregon, but you can conceal carry in WA without a permit. I usually keep pepper spray on hand, but maybe it's worth upgrading...

(1)(a) Except in the person's place of abode or fixed place of business, a person shall not carry a pistol concealed on his or her person without a license to carry a concealed pistol.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

 oh god that sounds awful. Maybe I'm done with eBay. But really, any time you ship something, there's just no way that I know of to prove what you shipped, or that the buyer didn't ship a brick back to you. Unfortunately the system still requires too much trust and clearly eBay values buyers over sellers (not sure how that's sustainable, but whatever, I'm not holding their stock).

It's a fair point, I'm not sure all my reasons are justified either, but if I can reasonably avoid it I'd rather obfuscate my identity and location (and obviously deal in cash) in case buyer turns out to be someone like the above. Or an axe murderer. My house isn't close to the public road so I don't like inviting people I don't know up here. Also, don't care about CCW laws on my own property.

I think this is fair as well. If I lived in a rural area like on our farm, I probably wouldn't have strangers out to my home either if I could help it. Being in a townhome in a fairly busy area of the city, at least it gives you the illusion of more people being around / more eyes on the street.

Not sure about CCW laws on your own property, common sense says you can carry however you want on your own property, but common sense doesnt always apply to any gun laws, especially in blue states.
I do know that brandishing laws still apply on your own property. They have even been applied in left-wing areas against people who use their weapons against actual real bad guys /intruders / thieves / etc breaking into their houses so keep that in mind before you draw.

I agree, 'scaring' somebody with a gun is retarded. But the situation can change in the split second you start to pull and you are ready to fire. If while you pull the bad guy turns to run, shooting him in the back is not only an unnecessary (and at that point unjustified) loss of life, its going to put you in a much worse situation legally.

Idk about scaring them with the gun but if you feel your life is or is about to be threatened, wouldn't it be better to draw and then not have to shoot if the gun deters them. Or if you can safely hold them at gunpoint until police arrive? Is that still brandishing?

Edit: I assume everyone saw that thing in Texas where guy held another guy at gunpoint for beating a woman in a car. Last I head the state said they wernt aware of any laws the guy with the gun broke. I suppose he could still be sued and I know that's also Texas but thoughts?

I guess, like, the idea of using a firearm as a deterrence device is wrongheaded thinking. I think it's wrongheaded even for police, although that's so institutionally ingrained that it'll never change. If you think your life or the life of someone you love is in danger, then draw and be prepared to stop the assailant as quickly and effectively as you can. When the threat is over, put your goddam gun away.

A "fear for your life" situation (and I am not an attorney and I am especially not your attorney and this is not legal advice) is unlikely to see you charged with anything. A "YOU GODDAM KIDS QUIT LIGHTIN' BAGS OF POOP ON MY PORCH" situation is gonna see you locked up, and rightfully so. In between, use good judgement, don't draw unless you actually fear physical harm.

Sooooo back to selling shit. 2 out of 2 folks who said they could come to pick shit up yesterday fell off the face of the Earth. This is when I troll them with further e-mails asking if they are okay. If they still don't respond, I offer to call emergency response.

By not leaving my house, these flakes affected me no more than the 20 seconds it took to reply to them.

protip: email/text/phone confirm that you are leaving to go to the meeting place in 20 mins and if you get no response, don't leave. 18 seconds tops. works every time.

not a terrible idea for rough areas, police stations offering their lobbies as meeting places for craigslisters:
<!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2015/01/30/police_stations_offer_their_lobbies_as_safe_havens_for_craigslist_transactions.html">www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2015/0 ... tions.html</a><!-- w -->

I ended up listing with eBay's buy-it-now and allowed people to make offers and broken laptop was sold (sold as in actually paid for) for a reasonable price in a matter of hours. Of course I got 20 silly offers too but it's pretty easy to bulk delete. I don't think I'll ever use their "auction" listing again. Just find some rough established value by searching, list yours around that, and it's gone. Can't wait to have my shipment returned with a brick in it!

I've been trying to sell a horse trailer for a few weeks on CL and I have had a few bites and at least everyone has been nice enough to tell me that they decided not and why. I haven't had any until this last one that just dropped off but I am still holding out hope she might call me back. Most of my issues are due to a deliberately vague ad. Once I fix it up a bit I can really work on selling it but I was going for the "if someone wants it like it is" angle with a lower price.

I bought it on a whim during one of the public tv station auctions as it was 1/2 price and we knew we'd need drawings/code reviews for the school building we're buying. ended up going with another firm though that our contractor has a good relationship with.
