Welp that didn't last long. CF front apron splitters and hood louvers on the way. Also getting a quote to have the wheels powdercoated (same color as on the XJR above), "greying" out the chrome trim on the doors and front with vinyl and blacking out the grille. This car is the inspiration:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.europeancarweb.com/featuredcars/1310_2012_jaguar_xfr/">http://www.europeancarweb.com/featuredc ... aguar_xfr/</a><!-- m -->

The only things I am completely sold on are the powdercoating and black grille. Mostly because they are both technically factory options. I am not a huge fan of chrome in general so the vinyl wrap might wait until after I get a feel for the car with the darker accents.

I approve of "shadowlining" the chrome door trim. I really am not a fan of chrome surrounding doors. Nice touch.

Please don't powder coat the wheels black. Seriously, don't ruin the car. Every time I pass a blacked out wheeled car on an otherwise stock car I puke a little in my mouth.

How about just getting those Vorsteiners on the car in the link? Damn those are sexy.

Generally I'd agree with DJ but I think he's talking about powder coating them gunmetal, which was one of the two choices available from the factory, so technically he's not straying far from "stock." I'm generally a fan of dark wheels, hate black ones that just disappear into the wheel well, might as well be a steelie at that point.

I would love those Vorsteiners if they weren't $1600 a wheel.... :lol:

And yeah I am not going black on this one. They will be dark gunmetal like the wheel option on most of the performance / black pack jags now. Like the pic from the last page I took of the XJR at the dealer:

that car is red though.

you need some contrast in your car, all black/gray looks pretty meh IMO.

Sorry Blair! No burnout pics yet! Daddy doesn't want to replace $400 tires yet

I actually love the black gray look. Ben had it on his prestige S4 and it looked awesome. I guess I could paint the calipers red, i've seen some guys go that route but I'm not super huge on the idea. The black gray will also look nice with the carbon fiber accents.

Quoted somewhere between $800-$1500 to paint the grille, chrome window surround and tiny chrome piece on the side vents....... :lol: Jag tax?

$720 to have the wheels powder coated. Seems average when including breakdown and reinstall of tires / wheels but that's almost the cost of the exhaust.

I said no Plastidip as well but I am considering it on the wheels and the grille. Those are two areas that I have done or know I could do very well. The window trim is the only place that is really hard to do it well and that looked not super great on my Caddy. It's also reversible so if I do a poor job it's easy to fix.

I think this looks awful on a white car but this gives a good shot of the grille: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.178758875622788.1073741843.178387192326623&type=1&l=a8b25df432">https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... a8b25df432</a><!-- m -->

And this is basically the exact color I am shooting for on the wheels: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOmOIevBIeY">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOmOIevBIeY</a><!-- m -->

Find a vinyl shop local to you and get a quote to have the chrome window surrounds wrapped in gloss black vinyl. Should come in way under those paint quotes.

This shop can do the vinyl but said that it may shrink and show Chrome when it gets cold. That is originally what I wanted them to do and am still leaning that way on the window surrounds anyway. A good shop should be able to do it right.

That sounds high for powder coat but :dunno: mine were $250 not counting break down which I would think should definitely come in at or under $200 for breakdown and remount. The place I used has also since closed its doors so :dunno:

Just a quick update and thoughts on ownership now after a few months. I installed the carbon fiber pieces and they look sick. I am now mostly sold on doing the rear diffuser in carbon fiber. I think my wife is getting me the exhaust for Christmas so that is awesome:

- Still love this car. Once the last few things I have planned are done it is going to be mostly perfect for me
- I am really glad that I went with an "older" tech car vs. a brand new one. There is a lot to be said for HD ScreenPandoraBluetooth2.0LiveDopplerRadar stuff in a car. To be honest though I actually really enjoy stepping into my car after a long day in front of a computer and not being surrounded by iPads or mobile apps. Yes the interface has a touch screen but its the best of what I would consider "old tech". A lot of people complain about the sluggishness of the interface in the 2010s but I honestly don't notice it because it's much faster than my old 2008 was :lol: The car has basically every feature I could ever want and they all work well, so I couldn't be happier.
- The overall performance has taken some adjustment. It is absurdly easy to cause TC to kick in even on rolling starts...I'm not sure if a big part of that has to do with the meh stock tires with plenty of tread. I have honestly been afraid to turn TC completely off and haven't done so yet. I will say that even in Trac DSC the car will remind you very quick that it is world class and requires all of your attention and skill.
- On the other hand it is so mild mannered in traffic. Very comfortable, quiet, reserved. A quick flip to Dynamic and Sport mode and it is a totally different car.

Things I don't like:
- The leather bolster on the driver seat is already showing some wear, which surprised me. I have kept Lexol on it every few weeks since I noticed it and it seems to have slowed down / stopped altogether. I have a feeling if I keep this car for the long haul I may end up reupholstering it. This wear is due to #2:
- It is very difficult to get in and out of the front seats. The way the seat is designed you have to swing your legs over the bottom bolster and this makes it very difficult not to wear or scratch the leather there. It has become an art for me to get in and out without putting extra stress on the seat but it's annoying
- The stock exhaust note is way too quiet for what the car is but I am fixing that soon (they put the active exhaust in the new F Type and it sounds GOOD)
- There is an occasional rattle from the sunroof and speakers, both of which are known issues. I may get them looked at but they don't bother me enough
- The leather on the dashes is notorious for coming unglued and peeling back and it looks HORRIBLE. This is really bad in southern cars like from Texas. It is over $3 grand to fix and is not covered under extended warranty. I bought the OEM sunshade and have kept it in during warm days but next summer makes me nervous because our office parking is not covered. If I keep it Lexol'd and covered I am hoping it will delay the inevitable.

Could not be happier with the car otherwise, looks and performs beautiful. Just counting down the years until the F-Type coupe becomes affordable as a replacement Smile

There is a small chance he could have been bitten by a radioactive spider and had no need to turn his head. However than the blind spot monitoring would then just be overkill.
