Alright, I'm well aware that the mileage on the title of a vehicle and the mileage on the odometer should make sense intuitively. What happens in a situation like this:
This person is selling a 2007 CBR, and bought the bike new. Mileage in ad is claimed to be 70. Yes, that's right seventy miles. Seven zero. 7-0. I call shenanigans. That being said, I wouldn't be content with myself not at least going to look at the damn thing. So the issue is this: the mileage on the title should be single digits. If he unplugged the speedo early, it would have never racked up mileage. Is there a pretty reliable way to tell if it is a basically new motorcycle, besides trying to judge based on wear on the parts? Maybe some sort of stickers, tags, etc that would still be somewhere.
Also, I'm sure there could be some negatives associated with buying a bike like this. If this thing really was barely used in 6 years, should I stay away?

Check OEM tire specs and then check thread with an actual measuring device..shouldn't even be 1/32 off

I guess if the tires appear to be original, as in probably a tire model number that isn't made any more, and they appear to have very little wear, then I guess I'd be satisfied. Brake pads, battery should be original, and there should be no tool marks on the brake fluid reservoir or any other service related item I would think.
As far as this being a problem, I'd be worried if the oil has never been changed. Other than that, I guess it's ok? :dunno: It's possible, I guess. People buy bikes for stupid reasons with no plan whatsoever.

I only disagree on the battery. If it wasn't hooked to a tender, he could have went through one a year.
Tires would be the easiest. Should probably have some major chicken strips too. Grip wear maybe? Is the oil clean and maybe a factory torque marking lined up on the drain bolt?

Ad states the battery is new which is expected, as Matt stated, if it wasn't hooked to a tender. All good advice above, I appreciate it.
When I asked to come check it out Sunday afternoon, the owner stated he'd be out of town until next week. Either part of the act or it perfectly demonstrates why the bike was never ridden. I also have a coworker that has a Goldwing he bought new in Roanoke. When he moved here to the Hampton Roads area, it only took one ride for him to stick the bike in his garage for the last 10 years. I couldn't imagine doing that, but I guess it does happen.

My 2007 has almost 6k on the clock. Maybe about 300 of those are from the last 4 years ( due to affording insurance and college And now lost interest). It does happen. But so low is still kinda weird. Check the chain adjustment too. If its far back, might throw a red flag.

Exhaust should be shiny and new too. The underside of the bike should be flawless.

Another problem with that amount of mileage that just crossed my mind, that isn't even one tank of gas on one of those things. I would definitely check into that. If you are really concerned, look at the plug for any signs that it was unplugged. Any marks on fairings for being removed to gain access to the connector and any tool marks on the connector itself. (Connector to the cluster). Key wear and wear on the ignition. Its damn hard to not scratch up the area surrounding the ignition on a motorcycle.

Lolz good point. Looks like I've got some ammo for this bike exam. I hope it's legit so I can lowball the guy.

No response from the owner. Sketchiness level almost maxed out. The only other thing that could make this sketchier is if I got an email with very poor grammar asking to pay via paypal because the bike will be shipped from Seattle.

Finally got to look at this bike. The guy said he bought the bike new when all his buddies were doing it. He didn't have much experience so wasn't extremely comfortable riding plus is in the Navy and was traveling for recruiting all the time. He ended up sticking it in storage. The tags had registration from 08.
Odometer read 69 miles (lolz). For the most part the bike looked the part. It had the factory correct tires that appeared new. He said he had the gas tank replaced and fuel lines cleaned this summer. The forks, exhaust and brakes looked the part of a new bike. He said he hadn't had the oil changed, I would assume ever, which is no bueno.
I was surprised to see cosmetic imperfections. There was a scuff the size of a half dollar right above the mirror on the left side of the upper cowling. One of the stickers had a few little scratches on the same side. The engine cover on the right side had a few marks on it too. I'm not convinced these are all from moving the bike around in storage.
All in all, I didn't leave after looking at the bike feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.
