Project: Old Man Truck

truck is an 1988 chevy silverado 1500 4x4 with a 350, automatic, 212000 on the clock, and would make any grandpa feel right at home. After an uneventful test drive and subsequent purchase, I'm starting to notice some oddities with the truck.
First off, anyone know of a decent diy forum(s) to get into? Not sure if i'll find the same level of documentation as the newer car world has, but maybe someone has come across something good?

have to check into a rough idle/stall out when at low speeds/stopping.It's happened 3-4 times in the last few days. Also when giving light throttle it sputters and acts like it wants to stall out, but does ok at a fuller throttle.

going to start with checking the plugs, although they were done about 6 months ago, maybe a fuel filter or pump?
i have no idea about the carb, those things are like black magic to me right now

88 should be TBI, not carb.

Correct, as usual, it's a TBI.

I managed to find the egr valve in the 11 minuets I had to poke around it this weekend, so I'm counting that as a win. I'll try to take it off/apart to clean it at some point. Lines to and from seemed OK, but know you can't always see an obvious vacuum leak.

Did find one rubber hose that was disconnected, hooked it back up but no noticeable difference. It was that small section of rubber at the top of the hard line in the photo, the line to the right of the one I'm holding. Not even sure what its a part of yet.


How many scoops of river rocks can I get in the Camry before it bottoms out?

And yeah, while WOT takes care of it, I can't fathom getting less than my current 12mpg... Forgot how painful it is to see triple digits at the gas pump.

Got the egr valve off tonight and appears to be working ok, good resistance when manually pressing down and holds with my thumb over the port. Carbon build up, but didn't look blocking. Was a badly cracked vacuum line coming off the egr so a little hot glue tonight for grins, but didn't seem to make a difference when back together. Will get a new line tomorrow.

Going to take a look at fuel pressure next, seemed to be a common problem on some other boards.
Anyone have experience doing it? Hoping I can rent a gauge from AZ or something.

*edit* it actually did better on the drive this morning, much smoother at light throttle. only stalled out once while in reverse.
