Garrett Hughes Running for PRESIDENT!!!
#1
We've (Me, Jon, Dan, Chris, Sam, and Abbie) have talked it over and I am going to run for president this year!

I would also like to run for a position. Preferably VP or wherever else I'm need. I have been a member since I first came to JMU and always had a blast. Whether it was autocrossing, social gatherings, or trips, I always had fun. I definitely want to keep that aspect going. Next year I would like to get more involved with the students and draw some potential ideas they were thinking. I hope next year we can get one more karting in as that always turns out to be a hit. Another thing I would really like to see are moar social gatherings and getting people out (doesn't have to just be drinking). Klines run, pizza trip (Jake), cruise anywhere. I really really really want to continue the ski trip if at all possible. For those who couldn't make it, wow. That was one of the best experiences I had in a while. From skishots to Ryan jumping off that roof there was no doubting that was one of the highlights of the semester. Dan, thanks for everything you have done, it's been one SOLID semester!

Edit: Next semester I will hopefully have the E30 up and I would LOVE it if current members would drive it
And more attendance (maybe fund-raise so other students don't have the excuse of no money) and definitely another in class teaching. I personally loved the one we had this year. Also as Jake (I think) mentioned, moar track time and a rally cross!

So as I suspect we come up on another election, what do you actually plan on doing for fundraising? What social gatherings aside from drinking will get people out?

Where do you see this club in 1 year? What needs/wants to be accomplished in that time? Do you see improved attendance, projects, or a large accomplishment that we can brag about?

These are questions I would like answered with more specific than general. You aren't Obama, you can't just run saying "things can only get better" without a real plan. Tongue

Hehe Big Grin
1)Fundraising, maybe car wash, detailing events, maybe even workshops, and of course sober rides (sucks but it does make money).

2) Social gatherings don't always have to be drinking. That always helps to loosen the move but some members just aren't into that. We have a few photographers in the club, and I can't think of one car guy that doesn't enjoy pictures of his car. So I'd really like to incorporate that. Additionally everyone loves/needs food, so we can always have lunch, dinner, klines, whatever to get some more people out. We will also have Dan's garage (thanks Dan) to wrench in. Everyone at some time or another needs to work on something on their car, so grab some drinks, open the garage and hang with the guys (and girls). We can teach people who don't know what they're doing to do things and pass the knowledge around.

3) I would like to see the club with a little more student involvement. Not just have a bunch of people pitch in dues and never ever show again. Draw them in with events, frequent trips or gathering anything to keep them up and going. And GET THEM ON THE FORUMS.

4) To accomplish them we one, let me reiterate it, need to get people on the forums. That's how you find out stuff. We have been posting a lot more on facebook and maybe we should think of an Instagram and/or twitter (fanboi, whatever). Social Networking can be a very powerful thing and is something I think we should incorporate into our "plan".

5) I'm not really sure what you are asking on that one.

Ok, so here's the deal. I like you Garrett. I think you are a really nice guy, and I've seen you at a couple of things. However, my concern is, you have bailed on a couple of events at the last minute (within the week of the event). You say you are coming to the track and then, have to work, same with Karting I believe. Now, I won't hold this against you, I promise, but I'd like to know that you are going to be at 95% of the events that are scheduled, and not at 45%. Is that a commitment you are willing to make? Otherwise, I'm voting for my dog.

Most definitely. I did make karting. The only two events I've had to ditch on were both track days I believe. I went to the karting, klines at the beginning of the year, snow trip, turducken, autocross, and the auto show. So I think I've only had to miss two events. Next year I'll have more leniency with my schedule. It was a little more complicated this year starting out and our staffing is low. But Diesel is a hard one not to vote for, I mean did you see some of those pics (PS I'm still waiting on my offer to puppy sit to be accepted).

Fair enough. I wasn't going to bust your balls, I just wanted it addressed. Anyway, I understand about working, and that is always important too. You'll be accepted to puppy sit, when our usuals can't do it. He's kind of picky that way! But seriously, good luck with your campaign.

I figured  And completely understandable. I would want someone who has pretty good attendance also.
