We have 3 threads on the new corvette, does anyway know how to read?
I figured I would make a thread that is actually important. For this year's car show we have decided to get the charity thing going again and collect donations for the local Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter. As usual we are going to do food for donations and accept donations in general.
I came up with another idea that Dan and I really want to make happen. This is where you old people come me in. We want to bring in 2-3 (more if possible) super car owners who would be willing (read: excited) to give up 30 minutes of their time to take a less privileged little (big brothers big sisters kid) for a ride in their car. Dan is a big brother and is going to set up a raffle system with them. The day of the show we will invite the kids out and pull as many names as we have cars and pair them with owners/cars. So who knows someone fancy that would be interested? Please please direct them to this thread or give them my way contact info. We want to get this knocked out ASAP! This is a great way for us to get involved with the community and make local news for something good! My email is jpolen zero one @gmail.com.
Show planning has begun and we are very excited to put on an unforgettable show!
Can someone make this a sticky? Not sure how to do it in Tapatalk.

Excellent Jon, this was fun to plan out with you. Really looking forward to handing the organization a nice sum of a donation.
Let's sticky this and re-title it to "'13 annual car show- charity"

My manager at work has a "collection" of AMG cars and Jaguars of undisclosed quantity. Not exactly supercars but a ride in an E63 AMG or Vanden Plas Jag XJ-R would still be pretty frickin cool.
I'm not sure if he'd be willing to do it, its a long ride from Reston and he's got three little girls that demand 110% of his non-work time, but I can mention it and see if he's interested.
I also have a good standing relationship with a race shop up here, that might be interested in getting involved if just for the publicity. They've got a nice little handful of cars. There's also a guy with a collection behind OG racing where Goody used to work. I've chatted with him and seen his collection but don't have any of his contact info, so I'd have to try to catch him at the shop again sometime. I could also talk to my old boss in Roanoke who has a fully restored 1989 911 widebody that he's only kind of too protective of.
How nice of a car does it have to be? I ain't got no supercar but I'll take someone for a 30 minute ride in the M3 provided its still fully assembled come carshow time. She ain't much but she's (kinda) fast & loud.
Speaking of which, we'll probably want to establish some ground rules and maybe find a good route to stick too. We'd have lots of 'splainin to do if 10 of us got pulled over for reckless driving and had someone else's kid in the car...

As far as rules/permissions, Dan and I have a meeting with BBBS this week to try and hammer out some details. They loved the idea in email form so as long as we can get some kind of permission from the organization, the parents of the child, and the drivers we should be good. We haven't thought too much about the route, but the amount of locals we have in the club currently I think we can get something relatively exciting, but not too wild planned out. I don't want to call it spirited, but I don't want it to be a boring ride through campus either. 10 cars is a lot and if we have that many people looking to volunteer, I would be ecstatic. I figure we may be able to get 3-5 cars which seems manageable. As far as cars, we would like it to be something these kids don't see on the street. Most of them (Dan can better chime in) come from underprivileged families and wouldn't normally have the opportunity to ride in a viper, lambo, ferrari, etc. I don't mean to come off as rude and we really appreciate the offer Joey, but for now we want to try to stick to exotics. We plan to ask Kyle from City Motors if he would be interested in volunteering his ZR1 or Gallardo (if he still has it). Other than him, anyone know any other exotics hiding around the burg? Or classic muscle cars, maybe? Anyone have a hovercraft?

details and such concerning liability and how the ride alongs will go about are to be planned out. Please know that Jon and I realize the externalities to pulling something like this off.
I will be working (as well as Jon) closely with BBBS from now until the show to make sure we go about planning a safe, fun and properly planned out that goes smoothly.
Great idea though right?

Anyways, Kyle @ CM came to mind first as you mentioned, if only b/c he's local - he would probably know of all the other exotics in the area as well and have some contacts.
Another that comes to mind could be Walter Curt, who owns a computer company just south of town and lives in Cville (SEI Inc.). He used to own the Enzo, Carrera GT, etc. in town. He last showed up to the MM show with a F430 and a Bentley (or rather his staff did) and word was he was very enthusiastic about supporting the Make a Wish connection we had at the time ('09).
Beyond that - hop on 6speedonline, Fchat, etc and put some feelers out?
Edit: Joey is referring to Alan, who among other things owns Craftsman Autobody in Falls Church.
Do you have contact info for Curt or would you suggest just looking for contact info on his website? We are going to start making contact once we get details with BBBS handled.

No disclaimer necessary Jon.
Let me know if you want me to ask around up here, sounds like you have a pretty good lock on it. I'm not sure how interested my manager at work would be, but I think I could get my old boss to bring something up or let me go down and borrow something, it would certainly be good publicity for his shop.
I'd work on getting the paperwork out of the way to see if you can even get this off the ground, then focus more on finding good responsible people with nice cars to do this, rather than the flashiest cars you can find with whoever behind the wheel. This is our club name and other people's kids we're talking about here, the tolerance for fucking around is going to be about -10%.
AKA: look for ooooold rich dudes, not Mischief TV types.

Ah, couldn't even remember his name. I need to find a way to cross paths with him again, wandering around his collection was like spending 20 minutes in heaven, I could barely form words.

AKA: look for ooooold rich dudes, not Mischief TV types. You hit the nail on the head. Dan is meeting with BBBS thursday to talk logistics. Once we get an agreement with them we are going to reach out to possible car owners. This thread is more of a brainstorming exercise to see who knows who. We are looking for more middle aged men with plenty of seat time in their car that know how to drive a little spiritedly while being in control. You are more than welcome to ask your boss and/or that shop owner if they are interested. The more cars the better. I'm really hoping to have a minimum of 5 cars. I think with that kind of turnout we can attract the local paper (read: not the breeze) and even local news channels to show the community that we care and want to involve them.

February Track event might be a good time to go out and talk to some people. While you don't want race cars, we have plenty of middle- aged racers who have very, very nice street cars. Chris Cobetto might be able to point you in the right direction. Just sayin', Chris is always willing to help out MM.
