Build a chump car out of a really lightweight car? Huge fields, not necessarily good "racing racing" but if you are just looking for battles, you will find it.
I went in on a team and then discovered they reallly really wanted to win and wouldnt even let non-experienced drivers rent a spot. This created a sore spot for me so I jumped out ( wanted to be able to rent out seats for friends). I just want to drink beer with friends, not care where I am but be able to "race". You jump in with me on a project, and in exchange for less cash on my end, ill store the car, trailer, I have all the tools, radios, some safety equipment etc. Paul Galleron is also 100% in according to him to build one.
My last team we built the car and it lasted all 24 hours within 3 weeks.

BLINGMW Wrote:I miss going to the track, but instructing or HPDE was getting a little boring. Bikes were fun, but I cannot see myself racing them, too scary. Thinking more about this, I think racing bikes could still fit the bill, you'd just have to race one of the slower classes. If you raced a SV650 it'd be cheap to buy, easy on tires, gas, and brakes, but not brain-scrambling fast. And they sound cool. Or you could go one step further and race a 250 (not a 2-stroke 250, those are really fast, expensive, and somewhat prone to highsides).
You could get away with just renting a uhaul trailer like I did, or get a cheap open deck trailer from harbor freight. You could get the bike, leathers, and trailer for probably $4000-5000, or $3500-$4500 if you just rented trailers.

that SRF vs Porsche wreck is crazy
G, I did look at some of the vintage classes WERA had, but didn't know there was a modern 250 class. "E Superstock". Ok cool, I will investigate a bit more. Did you see that group on weekends you were out? Did it seem well attended? Looking at a few recent weekend schedules, it appears they get lumped into a "lightweight" group which appears to be 3 different classes together.
I'm sure I could still manage to hurt myself, but I do like that bikes at least give me some reason to be in shape. Sounds cheap and fun.
I might be checking out some SRFs at Summit next weekend, I got in touch with the series rep for WDCR SCCA who gave me some info and seems willing to answer my questions. He said they typically get 15-20 cars per race, so it at least sounds pretty healthy.

I hated sharing the track with Legends cars. They probably hated sharing the track with real cars too...

Because you can't see them and most of the guys that drive them have no situation awareness........ Running Stingerbahn is almost as bad......
Scott Wrote:most of the guys that drive them have no situation awareness........
I think that would apply to racers in general. Ive been almost clipped by miatas, e30s, and mustangs good lord knows how many times. I could name a few drivers that need to go back to comp school and learn that their 2:23 second car shouldnt be trying to battle/block a 2:10 car because you couldnt keep up with the rest of your pack.
Funny how the fastest drivers in each respective class I actually have no problems getting by. (in stingerbahn GTS2 is fastest class). Anders, McAvoy, Dabreau, Grace to name a few I get by quickly, smoothly and no problem. Back of the pack miatas and e30s...GRRRRRRR. :finger:
Edit: Yes I am commenting on everythign today. All our financial systems are down for fiscal year closeout.

Legends on sticky tires wouldnt be a problem. They would have proportionate straight line and cornering speeds.
they use street tires, so fast on the straights, but slower than maeng driving a civic in the corners.

Thanks for the heads up, maybe I should go check them out. I need to figure out who the hell these guys are and how they assemble.

Well damn, I should just stick with iRacing then! It's apparently a more accurate simulation than I realize!

I miss the huge fields of Legends we used to have at the NASA events, I'd love to seem them come back. I know there are good Legends racing out at circle tracks (I remember hearing them in Danville/Martinsville, and I'm pretty sure Langley runs them regularly). I've always been intrigued and attracted to them, but deterred by the buy-in price; the deterrent has diminished over time as I get a better idea of the bigger picture.
That 944 attack sequence was insane.

the last 'battle' i had with you maeng was me lapping you in your 99 miata on race tires with my stock 94 miata on street tires.
oh yeah and there was the time I punted you through the wall in a kart race.

I think we have different definitions of "lapping". I seem to remember you locking dem shits up going into T1 and then I never saw you again.

And every caution during all 3 of the Stingerbahn races where caused by either the Legend cars or the Thunder roadsters..... We didn't have a race finish under green

I am pretty sure half those thunder roadsters need to go back to HPDE1. I have never seen worse driving lines and racer awareness as those guys. 1st lap...2 thunder roadsters, 1 following the other. 1st turn, the first roadster goes straight off, second roadster almost follows him, saves it, almost hits me in process but stays in it  Turn 3, takes the weirdest line I have seen in my life, almost clip him his exit is so damn slow, then proceeds to get in the throttle and go straight off at turn 4. Ill have to check tonight to see what video I have of it.
