Either sports car racing will be elevated to a new level here, or it will become twisty-NASCAR.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...
Yeah I'm curious how they're gonna balance LMP's vs Daytona Prototypes but as far as GT racing goes this is a huge win. There'll be really big fields, unified series sponsorship, and maybe something new and exciting with the 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Daytona. The only thing I really want to happen in this merger is for tube-framed silhouette-bodied sports cars to go away. I have no desire to see a tube-framed racecars with econo-box body work racing against exotics.

Agreed.
I'm a little worried that NASCARs influence over Grand Am will turn it into entertainment racing with near-spec cars rather than real racing, but otherwise this is a huge win. You can't have two major sports car series running head-to-head against each other, because sponsors will be split on how to best go about entering the sport, so I think overall it is a good plan. I'd love to see some awesome racing, and I think this might be the best place to see it in the US when it happens.
