You say you want to spend money on your race cars but are looking at getting into an old ass bmw that is going to need lots of money and time just to get it to the reliable point. .

I grew up surrounded by old British cars (still am) so maintance doesn't bother me....

JPolen01 Wrote:Obviously you want something sportier than an accord, but just for reference mine has 170k miles on it with the oil changed every 5k and I have not had a single thing fail. My interior is completely in tact, unlike every BMW in this club, and my car is a 2000 meaning it was built in 99. I haven't had to replace any sensors, my vtec still works, and I get between 29-32 mpgs. Of course it hasn't held its value like an e36 m3 but Hondas do hold their value fairly well.

I get the Accord, I've had a '83, '88, '94x2, and now my wife's '07. It's a great "appliance" car. With the exception of the '07 they all had over 200k when I got rid of them (actually I shouldn't of sold my '94 5-speed sedan last year....). I actually started my "autocrossing" career in my '94 coupe. I'm just bored with them. I replaced my '94 Accord with a Cooper S and it just cemented my hatred for FWD. I want something fun to drive that isn't too embarassing to take to meetings, can fit my daughters in the back, and I actually like the style of the E36's. I think they have aged well......

Thats funny.. Reading the thread, I was thinking, okay, 4 doors, rwd, manual, but old enough to compete with the e36 on price value... the first thing that came to mind was the IS300. I have always liked those cars and the gauge cluster looks like a watch. Very cool!

I think I just bought the car you want, Scott. Watch for a project thread soon.

The IS will probably cost you more than the E36 to buy, but I do think they hold up to age well. I definitely enjoyed driving David's the times I did. The motor is so smooth.

That said, you can find good E36 sedans with decent miles and the sport pack - it just may take some time.
