MMovie Nights: Senna and Murray Walker's Fantastic Moments
#1
While the racing season is quiet, I figured we could all get together for a couple of MMovie nights. Currently, "Senna" is on NetFlix. I highly recommend this movie and, if you cannot make it out to a movie night or we do not end up having one, there is no excuse for not watching this movie/documentary. You will learn a great deal about one of, if not the best, Formula 1 driver of all time who won 3 F1 World Championships while racing from 1984 until his untimely death in 1994 in Imola. Here is a clip from the movie on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FlCxD5-GqQ

The other movie is called "Murray Walker's Fantastic Moments" - it takes a look at the history of F1 from 1976-1996. Sound boring? It's not. It has clips about Hill v. Schumacher and Senna v. Prost and covers drivers from Gilles Villeneuve to...well...Jacques Villeneuve. Here are a couple of F1 clips that are shown during the movie (enjoy Murray Walker's fabulous commentary!!) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZw6d8YuOAo and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2g1yrGputA

The one problem with the second movie is that it is VHS. I can access NetFlix in my house and we can watch "Senna" here although my living room is rather cramped, but I don't have a VCR. Let me know who's willing to watch, and when and where you all think we should meet up.

If you are still unconvinced to watch Senna, I suggest you watch this and see if it doesn't help persuade you.

The vimeo has Lewis Hamilton in it and the youtube link does not.

I think Hamilton driving the car is the best part, honestly. Just to hear a current top F1 driver say how different it is and how crazy those guys must have been in the '80s pretty much sums it up. And just another something to show how compassionate Ayrton Senna was, I read earlier today that on May 1, 1994 when he died at Imola, he had an Austrian flag tucked up in his car so that he could honor Roland Ratzenberger (who had died the day before) when he won.

We could definitely play Senna at one of the "Top Gear" nights. So if Thursdays still work for people we can choose one of those to play it at.
