In memorium decal as a requirement?
#1
The son of a long time driver and past regional director for 944 Cup was killed in a motorcycle accident last week. A decal to honor his memory has been designed and will be made available to the drivers. Certain powers that be want to make the decal a requirement for all drivers. What are your thoughts on such a requirement? Is it a nice gesture to require it or bad form to make something like this mandatory?

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Not to be a dick, but I don't think it should be mandatory. I think it would be more fitting that those who knew and/or met him at one time could choose to display the sticker, gives it more weight, ya know? It just seems a little forceful for those who may have no idea who he was to "remember" and honor him.

Kinda like the "57" stickers for Cale Kastanek (sp?). Tragic loss, stickers made available, not mandatory.

Powers That Be are what they are. You choose your hills to die on, and for me, well...this wouldn't be one of them. Although, if it's required it better be small, tasteful, and free.

I'm not sure about the size, but I don't think it would be more than 6". Definitely free.

I would have to agree. This is supposed to be in support and memorium of a loved and missed one. I had my father die tragically in an airplane accident at 15, and although its a horrendous loss, support and grief was welcomed by those who shared and actually knew him. I was more offended by the children and people that did not have involvement with my dad and were required to go because of someone. It actually took away from the occasion than to help the occasion. (it was obvious too).

It also takes away from the support of those who care, if you have everyone do it.

go for it. happens all the time in all sports to require decals like that. is a nice gesture of support

In most racing classes you have to run "sponsor" stickers of companies that you will never see a nickel of cash or product from.
I seriously doubt anyone would object.

to be honest, even if they were optional i would bet most drivers would show them

What he said. Have a moment of silence and make them available - I would think everyone would put them on their cars.
